It will be the first time in 19 years that Colombia has hosted the Track World Championships. That same factoid also applies to South America as a whole (it's almost always been Europe or Australia since 1995) and outdoor velodromes, though the Velódromo Alcides Nieto Patiño has a roof.

Unfortunately, the roof doesn't stop rain being blown inside; thunderstorms are forecast for the entirety of the event.

Trying to find out what's on the red button is harder than trying to get through to a specific person at the Town Hall but I eventually managed to find it.......

Wednesday, 26 February

World Track Cycling, 23:50 BBC Red Button

Thursday, 27 February

World Track Cycling, 23:20 BBC Red Button

Friday, 28 February

World Track Cycling, 23:20 BBC Red Button

Saturday, 1 March

World Track Cycling, 13:15-14:45 BBC One & 23:20 BBC Red Button

Sunday, 2 March

World Track Cycling, 16:00-17:35 BBC Two & 20:20 BBC Red Button

All that's left now is to check that it's actually on normal red button and not internet red button

For some reason the BBC website is utterly hopeless for red button Schedules. Best site I have found is here

Cheers...........after I'd spent 10 minutes going round in circles on the BBC site I did realise that I've already got that site bookmarked !

It's still handy to find it on the BBC site if you can because as I've c&p'd above it gives the schedule by event (covering several days) rather than just day by day.......

The 2014 UCI Track World Championships are underway. Colombia opened proceedings with 4:05.751 in the men's 4km team pursuit qualifying round, which is due to finish at 1315 local time (GMT-5). After that, it's a 5-hour break until the evening session begins.

Yeah, it is Simon Brotherton. It's shaping up to be a bit of long night with a lot of not much happening, though. The World Champs is about stretching what normally takes 3 days over the World Cup into 5 days. Think I'll tape it and catch up at brekkie.

don't really like the display they're using, it only shows their time and position not how far they are behind the lead.

I've never seen the team sprints restricted to one team per heat before (except for the first team).

Women's & men's team sprint qualifying rounds respectively:
http://tissottiming.com/File/Downloa...FFFFFFFFFFFF02
http://tissottiming.com/File/Downloa...FFFFFFFFFFFF02

Germany v China for gold, Great Britain v Russia for bronze
New Zealand v Germany for gold, Russia v France for bronze

Looks like the German ladies have maintained their form throughout the season; they're a class apart.

Interestingly, the Kiwi men were the fastest in each lap. As for Kian Emadi-Coffin...he certainly lacks the pace of his rivals now, but he has time on his side. It took 4 seasons for Chris Hoy to win his first global championship medal.

The full set of startlists and results are available on Tissot Timing:
http://tissottiming.com/Competition?...t=CT&year=2014

Interestingly, some of the medal rides in the team sprint were quicker than the qualifying rides.

Good for them, New Zealand have hardly ever had a sprint team before, they were always distance specialists.

the women's team persuit team are making up for the men's performance, they were fastest in qualifying meaning they are guaranteed at least a silver, they will face Canada for the gold this evening, considering they were over 2 seconds faster than the Canadians in qualifying, expect them to get the gold. Also Jason Kenny and Mike Crampton are both in the semi-finals of the men's keirin (though mike only got through via the repecharge), we'll have to wait and see if either of these men can medal, Jason must be favoured since he's the defending champion but anything can happen in the keirin. There's also Becky James and Jess Varnish in the time trial, they got bronze in this event last year, will they be able to do better this year?
