Relax...first day of the 2013 TWC wasn't fantastic for GB either.

Now that Anna Meares is back, a medal of any colour in the 500m TT for Becky James (bronze last time) would be impressive.

Why is Vicky Williamson not using aero bars? Nice ride though.

disappointing run from becky, not sure if the wind might have had something to do with it, why they can't build some walls for this place is beyond me.

dunno why people break away so early in the scratch race, did he really think he was going maintain that lead for the entire race?

Nice ride by Miriam Welte to win the 500m TT world title on her third try, having won silver on the previous two attempts. Meares wins silver in her first global championships discipline since the 2012 Olympics and will compete in the sprint and keirin later on during these champs.

It's hard to tell what form James will have in those events, since her performance in the team sprint was good.

.....

BTW, that was a splendid move by Cheung King Lok in the men's scratch...ah wait, he rode to the infield for a bike change.

I didn't quite understand what was happening there, but it's nice to see Martyn Irvine back his gold from last year with a silver, especially given the fact he's crashed during this season.

Here's comes the second round of the men's keirin. Jason Kenny and Matt Crampton in the first of the heats, which is packed!

Jason Kenny just about gets through, he'll really need to improve on that in the final if he wants a medal.

Simon Van Velthooven overlaps the back wheel of the pacing bike by a couple of inches, for which he is disqualified. Ouch.

Just noticed they're using a proper motorbike and not a derny.

I feel sorry for Matthew Glaetzer, that crash may put him out of contention for the sprint as well. The commissaires have disqualified Azizulhasni Awang (though perhaps not for the crash).

Minor final of the men's keirin coming up...with only three riders, it's essentially a sprint repechage (no progress to additional rounds though).

Another chaotic race there, and another crash (Maximilian Lexy this time - look at that shoulder!)

Francois Pervis is becoming quite the late bloomer - just a season older than compatriot Gregory Bauge, but their trajectory of success has been quite different. And props to Fabian Hernando Puerta for getting silver - that's given the home crowd something to cheer about. Matthijs Buchli gets bronze again.

well gold for gb but not the dominant display I was expecting, they were damn lucky Canada went 1 woman down. the british team seems a bit off form these championships, won't be surprised if this is our only gold medal. well if it had to happen I'm glad it's happening now while the team still have team to fix their problems before the Olympics.

There was no luck involved. Yes, they weren't as dominant as their performances earlier in the season suggested and lost form towards the end, but GB still had more in reserve than Canada and finished over a second ahead despite the big gap between man 2 and 3; Canada gave them a good fight but couldn't maintain their pace over all 16 laps.
