Valverde at 7 minutes now looks like Contador and Ten Dam are moving into 2nd and 3rd overall

oops didn't realize Mollema and Kreuzinger were in the break as well

About time Cavendish got a win?

Geraint Thomas is doing well considering his injury!

I would think they'd be more worried about how quickly their entire team just imploded! Ok, Froome has to save energy, but he's losing over a minute now, and he didn't have a big enough margin to begin with to be sure of getting through the Alps unscathed!

Sky are looking incredibly vulnerable, and their team selection increasingly laughable. Contador will be feeling smug tonight I'm sure, he's really made Sky look bad today!

But Contador's already had a bad day himself, so Froome can probably afford to write this one off and not worry too much, the issue is the disparity between the strength of Contador's team and that of the Sky team!

Good end to a tricky week.

Well done Cavendish - maybe he was inspired by his own documentary on ITV last night?

Actually I still think Kreuziger is stronger than Conrador. They may end up kicking themselves for that climb at Ax-3-Domaines

Wow! What a stage..

Well done Belkin & Saxo Bank.... And Cav of course!

Sky are a f***ing mess... When a man with a broken pelvis is up the front trying to cut the gap, you know you have problems!

I was convinced Froome would walk this... now i don't think he will.

Now Valverde gone... That leaves the Spanish teams to team up against him.

That's what I mean. Tomorrow is definitely a dangerous day for Sky. Up and down all day. If Saxo or Belkin hammer it again, or if Movistar want revenge, Froome could be in for another stressful day.

Froome's biggest concern will be the risk of getting caught in the mountains with a mechanical incident and no team members around to help. He could so easily suffer the same fate as Valverde did today.

Awesome stage great for the race, bad day for Sky but not as bad as Movistar all setting up for an exciting run in Have faith in Froome and Sky

Really happy for Cav, super ride relief after this last few days

Most interesting stage of the Tour so far. Given the weakness of his team and that he's given back half the time trial gains Froome can't afford a bad day or the sort of bad luck Valverde had.

Well after Contador and 'chaingate' a few years ago, and Belkin attacking today too, the unwritten rule about attacking leaders having mechanical issues seems to have been erased from the unofficial rule book.

Still think 2'28 is plenty of a lead, providing CF doesn't have a bad day in the mountains. There's another time trial next week, and Contador looked weak last Saturday. That said, will he have any Sky riders left to push him up most of the mountain again? They're missing Wiggo's help.
