Great day for the young British rider Adam Yates of Orica in the Tour of Turkey in his debut year on the Pro Tour. He got into the decisive pair on the final climb of the day and finished second behind Taaremae, but well ahead of the rest of the field, so is now second overall in the race.
not so good for his brother Simon, who crashed out and has a broken collar bone !

God to see that he have another potential British climber.......

Goodness me, that was an impressive performance by the OPQS train, like HTC back in the day. To think that sprinting legend Alessandro Petacchi still has enough speed to rip the Mark duo off the peloton in the last kilometre at the age at 40 (!)...well, he does have 184 professional victories to his name, including GP Cerami earlier this month; time will tell if Cav can surpass that (I think today was #114 for him).

As for the Giro d'Italia, it'll be live on Eurosport every day. Petacchi will be there too, though he's playing down any chances of another stage win there; in any case, it's almost certain the sprints will be dominated by Marcel Kittel (neither Cav nor Andre Greipel are on the startlist, so a 5+ stage haul is possible if he doesn't pull out early).

I'm not sure a spoiler tag was needed...but it was indeed a great finish.

Mind you, Carlton Kirby did himself no favours with his commentary during the last climb...

Well, what a great day for British cycling, Adam Yates takes the stage and the lead in the Tour of Turkey, Chris Froome second on the stage and well into contention in the Romandie. I think when the time comes Froome will have no trouble blowing Spilak away, obviously he needed him today. I'm starting to get very excited about the Yates brothers - up to now Adam has been very much in his brother Simon's shadow, but there is definitely something special there.

Today's stage in Romandie came down to a sprint finish and it was obvious Spilak would win that !.......from the back view he was twice the size of Froome. !

I always feel it's a great shame when these up and coming British riders sign on for a 'foreign' team.......like the Yates brothers, Andy Fenn, Dowsett etc

I'd like to see Sky snapping up the young British talent !

I think that Sky are very much a Grand Tours team, so it's very disciplined and structured. Young riders like the Yates brothers get a bit more of a free role if they go elsewhere.

Steegmans well and truly screwed up the Stage 7 finish by leading out far too quickly. Then carelessly dropped off obstructing one rider, and wobbled setting up a collision zone for the riders surging around him.

I noticed Steegman wandering around llke a drunk after peeling off........surely some action has to be taken against him ?

That was incredibly dangerous in a bunch sprint

Looking again at the recording it seems like a team tactic as Steegmans was not the only one.

The fourth rider in the OPQS line forced his way up to the front behind Cavendish apparently the sole purpose of blocking the following riders.

As soon as he was ahead he boxed one rider to the kerb allowing a gap to begin to open. Checking over his shoulder, when Napolitano(?) came up he swung off despite having done no lead-out work. The gap was not down to Steegmans power as Carlton initially suggested.

Just watched this. I'm actually quite a fan of OPQS, but that was complete bull. Looked like very blatant tactics by more than one OPQS rider to block and disrupt quite dangerously riders on other teams. Steegmans, in particular, was appalling and it didn't look unintentional.

And Cav beats Viviani for his 4th win of the Tour. And confirmed that Adam Yates wins the overall, a great start to the 21 year old's career.

Next up, the final stage of the Romandie, it's a TT so should be meat and drink for Chris Froome and Tony Martin.

And Chris Froome closed it out, beat Tony Martin by 0,2 of a second on the day, then beat Spilak by 28 seconds to win the race. Good week for British cycling after a slowish start to the season.

We get Monday and Tuesday off, then the Four Days of Dunkirk live on Eurosport starting on Wednesday, highlights of the Women's Tour of Britain on Wednesday night on ITV4, highlights of the Tour of Azerbaijan starting on Thursday, and finally the Giro starting live in Belfast on Friday. Quite a week.

I'm looking forward to watching the women's Tour of GB........we hardly get to see any women's road racing

shame ITV4 didn't commit to showing some live action as I thought they did a pretty good job with the men's race in the last couple of years

....which satellite and cable users should be able to pick up on the regional variation channels.

So you have a choice for the Women's Tour de GB today, ITV4 have highlights at 21:00, Eurosport 2 have highlights at 22:00. Suspect both shows will be the same package though.
