So it's looking like Juan Mata will be leaving us
Am so sad that the little magician is going but will wish him well as he has behaved with great dignity and he was a wonderful player for us.

I dont think theres any chance of Man Utd letting Rooney leave in January. We have a chance in the summer, but until then there is no chance. Sadly all we will get from Utd is the money. I guess the club will save it till the summer and use it on buying a striker. Hopefully atleast theres some sort of clause in the deal that lets us have first offer at Rooney, as the rumours are Real Madrid want him too.

I am also pretty gutted if Mata leaves, especially to Utd, but its looking very likely just now. Nothing we can do, sadly he is surplus to requirements.

Martin Tyler's just said that we've agreed a £37m fee and Mata has a medical tomorrow.
Sorry to see him go, and I wish him all the best.

Mata is great on the ball.

He has no pace whatsoever, is lightweight and never puts a true shift in

he is exactly what united do not need at the moment,, and why we should take the huge amount of money and run

That's unfair. He always puts a shift in and never hides when things aren't going our way. It's not his fault he is unable to fill the role Jose wants from him. He has covered for our misfiring strikers for two years and his work ethic and goals gave Hazard and Oscar the breathing room they needed to settle in. They've both kicked on this year, but last year their contribution was underwhelming. Just say thank you and wish him well.

Well done to Gus. That penalty spot must have been cursed, worst set of pens I've seen from two top sides. Hope he keeps them up and they do well under him.

If Rafael had got the red card he deserved on Sunday he would have been suspended and wouldn't have been there to miss the crucial final penalty.

I am sorry to see Mata go and its wrong to diss him. He's been great for us but not so much this season.
We have got a decent fee and I expect to see it spent on a striker in the Summer.
I wish him well.

Can't believe we're saying goodbye to Mata so soon. I get why it's happening, but it f**king sucks that he's going to United

I agree with you, I'm just grateful for all he did for us.

Twitter rumours seem to be saying we're interested in 2 wingers - Salah & Griezmann, surely that's the last thing we need?

I am more than pissed at this move.

I just don't understand it at all. There are only negatives that come out of Mata leaving for United.

Why sell him to the same club that said no to us when we wanted Rooney?

What if Oscar get's injured ?

Why sell him to United ? with a few good signings they could easily be a force again next season.

I also hate this rubbish reason as to why Mata doesn't fit into Mourinho's system. So what if he can't track back well ? i don't remember Mourinho having a problem with Ozil not tracking back. You won't find many attacking centre midfielders who can do both tracking back and creating tons of chances, it's just not realistic.

Look as Oscar, his passing at times has not been up to the standard of what it needs to be. He also doesn't create enough when you think of the position he plays in. I can't help but feel that him constantly tracking back is the biggest reason for these problems in his game right now.

If we can't keep clean sheets because Mata doesn't track back then it's the defense that is the problem, not the attacking midfielder.

This is just a joke of decision, it's become a common trait with us nowadays.

Evening all, as a United fan can I say how delighted I am to see we maybe getting Mata from you guys.

My concern is that under Moyes Mata may suffer and judging by some United posters Mata maybe the man to get us back to 4th place.

Can I ask you guys what you think? Will Mata suffer under Moyes and could he turn Uniteds season around?

Mata is an amazing player and an amazing human being, he is SUCH a nice guy and in these days of horrible headlines about footballers, he is one of the nicest guys in the game as far as I'm concerned.

For me, he's better than Ozil but and it's a big BUT I don't get how he's going to fit into your style of play. His best position for me is number 10 but he can play on the right, he's certainly not a winger in the traditional sense because like all of Chelsea's midfield 3, he cuts in. But I'm confused as Rooney is obviously your number 10 (or just behind the striker player which means you can't have a number 10 taken up the same spaces)

I guess the only way I can see it working is in a 4-3-3 with Rooney on the left and Mata on the right with RVP in the middle.

If it was Mourinho that bought him, I'd have faith that he knew what the plan was and he could tactically fit him in, but this smacks of a panic buy to me and sorry, I just don't have the faith in Moyes as a tactician from what I've seen and I don't think his strong suit is flair players, so we'll just have to wait and see. He's also Champions League cup tied which is a bit of a pain for you.

But hey, the state on your midfield at the moment, he's a massive improvement.

But I wish Mata all the luck in the world, just not all the success.

He certainly might not be playing in the Champions League for a while if he goes there, he won't be able to play in it this season, and with how Utd look at the moment, he might not be playing in it next season.

Mata's quality certainly makes him a player that should be in that competition for me.

But results are not backing you up.

Where would we be with him in the team?

Its not just about tracking back, There are many other reasons

Why sell him to the club that wont sell us Rooney? Really? Are we going to be that childish? You wont let me play with your toy so you can not play with mine?

So what if they are a force again? We are a force and i have more then enough faith in our team that we can see off Man Utd no matter how much of a force they are, We did it before when they they were near the hights of their force and we will do it again

Who would you have sold him to? Forget the press, Name me the clubs who have put a offer in for him? Give you a clue its a list of one and they play in Manchester and in red.

We cannot force clubs to put in bids. No club was going to match that figure in January even the mega-rich ones and between now and the end of the season I doubt Mata would have got 90 minutes of football so clubs again would not have put in such a high bid.

The only way Mata would get a game for us is if we arranged a friendly in Kuala Lumpur 3 days before the City game and even then it would be for the last 15 minutes.

We are in a better place in the league then we have been in the last 2 years, Surely that is a sign we are moving in the right way?

I can deal with us selling Mata, although I'm not happy with it being to United. What irks me the most though is the timing of the deal. Mata didn't put in a transfer request as far as I've heard so it seems like we've willingly allowed him to go now rather than in the summer. Unless we're going to re-invest the money (or at least part of it) in this transfer window then we've seemingly just decreased our chances of winning the title by reducing our AM options. Yes we might be making a few extra million from selling him now, but are we really that desperate for it that we'd jeopardise our chances of success this season? We now only have Schurrle as an alternative to the three in the team, and apart from the game at Stoke he's yet to make any real impression.

Well, the vast majority of Chelsea fans wanted Mourinho back, myself included. Now he's here we have to go along with his judgements as far as the squad is concerned.
I think Chelsea have made the right decision in the circumstances. Mata (to his credit) acted with remarkable patience when it became obvious that he didn't feature in Jose's future plans. He had been our star player for two seasons, and found himself 5th choice behind Schurrle in the midfield pecking order. I think that's absurd, but I'm not a world class football manager with a roomfull of trophies to my name.
It couldn't really carry on with Mata warming the bench every week, it would have been grossly unfair to the player and he deserved better. Mata has moved to one of the biggest clubs in Europe, we have accepted a fair offer and can look around for a player who suits Mourinho's requirements without falling foul of the new financial rules..if they ever become to mean anything.
I'm sad, but we've behaved honourably towards the player which I think was important, and I wish him every success in the future...as long as its not against us.

I dont want us to be like another club who's fans start burning shirts because a players wants to leave. Not saying we would do that as we are better then that but I dont want him to go under a cloud. At the weekend I hope we give him a great send off.

Yes I dont want to sell him to Utd or anyone else but have accepted he has got to go. I doubt many clubs would come in for him now with big money offers unless they really really needed him, That for me leaves a list of one
We are better than that. He goes with my blessing, I get it, I do and I know how much he wants to be part of the Spain squad but it will be an absolute gutter to see him in a Utd shirt, I can't lie, I love the guy.

Good luck Juan.

No idea who Salah is, but we're apparently looking at him to replace Mata. Falcao's out for 6 months, so those rumours will be gone for a while at least.

Essien rumoured to be talking about a loan with AC Milan and, not that it matters much to us at this point, McEachran has gone to Wigan.

Busy window from now 'til the end.

edit: Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with FC Basel for the transfer of their 21-year-old attacking midfielder Mohamed Salah.

The move is subject to the Egyptian international agreeing personal terms and completing a medical examination.

Having looked him up he's played well and scored a few times against us recently. Those games must have been bad for me to not remember him
