Man Utd Chief Executive Ed Woodward has left the club's pre-season tour in Sydney to fly to Europe to address urgent transfer business.
one tweet has not made news on sky and talksport already. they have no idea if its true, or if its related to anything. why dont they just report transfers - they are happening regardless of all this speculation. |

Uneventful second half tbh. Good run-out for the players though. de Bruyne was pretty good, didn't see enough from van Ginkel. |

I think all of this has been a case of "tit for tat" mind games.
First Mourinho responds to Moyes' rather undiplomatic statement about Rooney no longer being his first choice striker with..“If Wayne is a second choice for Man United, then the national team will be affected ".This will obviously have pissed off Moyes no end. Chelsea then put in a cash bid. I'm guessing it wouldn't have been very generous at this stage. Angry United reject the bid and probably start a few mischievous rumours doing the rounds that Chelsea have given United a choice of one of their top young players plus cash for Rooney. Chelsea have to rush out and deny the rumours which are already unsettling fans, not to mention the players concerned and other members of the squad. Mourinho...it's your move next, go get him Jose ! Moyes isn't used to playing these games, it should be a walkover. ![]() |

Well it looks like Rooney is ever closer to joining us. Jose saying now that hes our sole transfer target and noone else. Bit of a shame if so, no new CM(Van Ginkel is it?) or defenders.
The suggestion that Luiz or Mata is going the other way is bizzare, seems like newspaper talk but the club were swift to deny it in a full statement so it is rather odd. Someone said above that it could just all be mindgames betwen Man Utd / Chelsea, which could be right. Do i think Rooney would be a good signing? Im undecided, no doubt hes a great player on his day but he could equally be rubbish for us, if he doesnt get his fitness right. I get the feeling he hasnt really fulfilled his potential and reached the top players like Messi/Ronaldo. Where does he fit in our team too? Upfront instead of Lukaku and Torres? Not his best position really, or behind the striker(IMO his best), but that means Mata/Oscar/Hazard wont be all playing, nevermind Moses/Schrulle. That said, if we can get him for Ł25m i dont see why we shouldnt take a punt on him. But anything more and i would seriously reconsider. Ł50m or whatever would just be madness(im sure Man Utd fans would want that) |

A fully firing Rooney is a brilliant player, absolutely brilliant. I certainly won't be pretending he's shite if he signs for you guys, however given the way he has behaved I don't want to see him back in a United shirt so if its stay or go to Chelsea then Chelsea it is for me.

At least there's one piece of good news. Monaco have confirmed that they will complete the signing of Hulk tonight. The price, €52m ! From what I've seen of the player recently, that price actually makes Torres look a bargain.

He won't join Chelsea if he's being signed as a support forward, as that's apparently his problem at United. His nose has been put out of joint because Van Persie is fitter and better than him, in that position. |

Rooney wants to be the central striker. He would play (presumably) where Torres/Ba played for you, last season.

Some of the greatest players in the history of the game have been "support strikers".. surely it's just a other name for an inside foward ? |

You may be right, but I don't really see the logic behind that point of view.

Always got the feeling that Rooney is one of those players that need to feel loved by the management, Some players you can just leave to get on with their job while others need more care, I think Rooney is one of those players. After the first transfer request I think he felt he lost the "love" and has never recovered from that.

Rooney could have had a "get out" by the change of manager but he obviously wants out. I don't understand why he wants to go to another English team though - and that's absolutely no disrespect to Chelsea at all. |

Its so great to have JM back - hearing him in the presser, no nonsense, telling everyone what the situation is re Rooney.
I see Coleen is getting twitter abuse off some Utd fans - never understood why anyone does something like that, all teams have them! |

See I wouldn't disagree with that but we have had a change of manager so he could have had a fresh start. It's the opposite of when SAF changed his mind about retiring the last time and told the players he was staying, first comment was one of them turning to Dwight Yorke and saying "oh well, that's you ****ed Yorkie!" and sure enough he was out.

I don't understand why he wants to go to another English team though - and that's absolutely no disrespect to Chelsea at all. As for going abroad, I just dont see him being able to live anyway other then England (and the misses as well) I dont think he could cope with the change in culture (think he will find it hard enough moving from the North to the South). As a player once he gets his game face mindset he is a fantastic player but dont think there is much going on behind the eyes and I think thats the problem, With everyone earning off his back there is nobody to say "Wayne stop being a idiot and sort yourself out" He would never go City as athough I dont think he bright he not that thick so really only leaves Chelsea. Am myself 50/50 on him coming (I am on most signings I admit) if we get the Rooney I know he can be then it a great signing but if he can not get his head right then we up the creek without a striker, The only thing I can say is we have a manager who is one of the best around at getting into players heads and making them play, Lamps was playing well before Jose came but once he put his arm around him and started saying stuff like "I would not swap him for any player in the world" etc Lamps went up 3 or 4 gears, I think thats what Rooney needs and maybe he feels he not getting that at Utd |

I agree, SO looking forward to it!
And I have Hull tickets.. .....though was going to order my shirt next week with Mata 10 on the back...may have to wait a while................![]() How many more pre-season games have we got left? Fairly standard game yesterday. Wallace looked very good so did KDB. His set piece taking was excellent, not to mention his crosses! Schurrle kinda dissapointed me yesterday. Tried to do too much when a simple pass to his team mates would have sufficed. Oh well, it's only a pre-season game so maybe I'm being a bit harsh on him. Moses got into some good positions yesterday but I wish he would look up sometimes! Such a fustrating player to watch at times. Essien looked suprisingly good yesterday, hope he manages to keep this up. Van Ginkel was pretty quiet, so was Kalas and Piazon. Is there any news on Lamps? |

More Jose stirring about second choice players risking their world cup places.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23353195 Despite the BBC angle that it was about Rooney, I think that particular salvo was aimed at Torres. If he's serious about buying Rooney, he must want Torres shifting for the wages alone, but Torres has been making I'll stay and fight for my place noises. |

Sadly I don't see Torres going anywhere in the near future. Del Bosque is a very loyal guy and if Torres has a decent season (20-25 goals all comps), hell be in the squad no doubt. As for Rooney, his position in the WC is always safe especially with Roy Hodgson at the helm.

I don't think Torres will get the opportunities he had last season where we shipped out all the other strikers and played him in nearly every game. Considering minutes played in the PL, his goal tally was awful. Not sending Lukaku out on loan and looking to buy a big name striker makes it sound like Torres is done as first choice anything for us. He could end up being Malouda'd out since no one seems to want to buy him.
