Sometimes players don't fit in with managers for one reason or another. For some reason the manager who will lead you to great things didn't fancy Mata so i guess he becomes a casualty of that.
In the end we get a player that i am absolutely chuffed about signing, but you guys get £37m for a player who Mourinho simply wasn't going to pick anyway. Personally i think that everyones comes out of this transfer with great credit. Chelsea, Man Utd , Mourinho, Moyes and Mata. Everyone has treated everyone else with great respect and spoken REALLY well in the media. None of the usual back stabbing and one-upmanship. Sometimes a deal just suits everyone and i think this is one of those times. Personally, I think Jose's judgement will be proved wrong with this one. But at least we've got a fair price and providing we are still getting the right results, I can live with Mata proving his abilities again in a red shirt. |

I agree with every word of your post (although Schurrle did have a cracking game against Steaua Bucharest not just Stoke
). I wish we could have delayed the deal till the summer. So what if we couldn't recoup as much as £37m in the summer transfer window. Would Mata's value really fall that much? I mean we paid £30m for Willian!! We might have made a profit on Mata's sale but look where we spent the money on: Salah, another attacking midfielder (it's not like we don't have enough of those....Traore, Piazon, Atsu, Moses and Marin all say hi). For all this talk about we got a great fee etc etc.... just look at how much we paid for Salah. We reinvested the profit from Mata's sale to buy another AM when we could have developed one of our youngsters instead. I don't have anything against the player but I feel he's just going to be a squad player for us (would love to be proven wrong though). |

Yes it does seem like a waste that we're signing Salah when we have all of those other attacking midfielders out on loan. I'm sure we could have recalled Piazon from Vitesse, he's been in good form for them so far this season too.
He also has blistering pace, something the other names mentioned don't possess. I've a feeling that he will surprise a lot of people. Marin didn't impress on the few occasions he played last season, and Moses was inconsistent..I see he had a good game today though. Not sure about Piazon, but i'm glad to hear he's having a good season. I'm hoping we do rationalise the number of players we have out on loan, it's becoming ridiculous. How many could most fans name without looking it up ?

Salah did look a bit special in the games he played against us, so he's probably been on our radar ever since.

The annoying thing is that Utd signing Mata now looks to have kept Rooney with them for the forseeable future... i guess we can forget about signing Rooney now. Utd got a good deal IMO, i still think £37m is a fair price for Mata, not over priced at all. They get a top player and now can look to rebuild going forward under Moyes, lets hope it doesnt come back to haunt us. I dont think it will this season, but next season we could see Utd being top contenders again if they keep going this way.
Oh well, Stoke in the FA cup today, wont be easy, but we should win in current form. |

We should have forgotten about it last summer when they made it clear enough that they weren't willing to sell him to us. Personally I'm glad as I don't want us to sign him. What I do find frustrating though is that we seem to have placed all of our eggs in that basket rather than pursuing other strikers.

In the same way that Arsenal allowed Van Persie to go to MU, I'm disappointed and amazed to see that Chelsea have allowed Juan Mata, a player I rate very highly, to also go there. This move could quite easily kick start United's season and allow them to progress in a way they may not have done had Mata been sold abroad.
I understand that giving a player an opportunity they want where they want is being fair to that player. On the other hand, why hand your opponents a lifeline? I really hope this move doesn't come back to haunt Chelsea but I fear it may. Would Alex Ferguson have allowed Mata to go in similar circumstances? Am I missing something here? Has a deal for Rooney been secretly agreed to allow this move to happen? Is Wenger correct in suggesting that Mata moving to MU was tactical? Is 37 million quid to good for Chelsea to turn down - even from MU? |

We exchanged a very good player in Kdb for him, he needs to work for us. |

Stoke are a nasty team, etoo should have had a pen there. Two stoke defenders holding him back not attempting to go for the ball
