he doesn't have to be certain it was going in, just that it was an opportunity

An opportunity that was denied, not just an opportunity.

what was the opportunity that was denied?

Great performance and win.
Luiz and Matic are excellent in midfield together. I would play them every week now.

He was denied the opportunity of scoring, why else do you think he handballed it.

Yep because Wenger has always shaken hands with managers

I don't understand the obsession with shaking hands we seem to have in football nowadays anyway.

Once again its just paying lip-service to the media who are looking for any little detail to spend time doing anything other then having an intelligent discussion about the game. I also did not walk across the pitch and shake hands with every Arsenal fan (mainly due to they seemed to have vanished) and I am really sorry about that and will spend the night in a dark room thinking about my shocking attitude

The opportunity came with the shot. If he was poleaxed prior to being able to shoot that is another matter.

and the denying happened when he handled the ball , what is so difficult to understand about that.

I think there is a lot of winding up in a supporters thread going on.

Let's start talking about the six nil win. I still cannot believe it.

We started off the game in a fantastic way. I think even without the sending off it still would have at least been 4-0.

Wenger totally set his team out badly, They looked like they was scared to lose the game don't know if it was the pressure from the attention of it being Wenger's 1000th game or it being against Chelsea or losing would end their title hopes but even to me at the back of the MHL they did not look ready for the game.

For me it was a very good example of the last 500 or so games of Wenger's time at Arsenal. They lack that that mental strength on the field and off it, I think its ok not to have it on the pitch but you then do need it from the manager and I think that's the difference between Wenger and mangers like Jose and SAF.

A ball that was going wide.

If it was going in it is a red card.
The referee could not have been certain.
As it would have gone wide he got it wrong as per law 12. Read law 12.

Its clear to anyone they don't like each other so I don't see the point in pretending to respect each other or being "polite" if its not genuine.

Its also good manners and showing respect by (and part of your job) going to talk to the media (people who earn money from you talking to them) instead of sending out some random to make up lies about the bus having to leave (was it hired by the hour? Did they need to catch a plane for a game we are unaware of?)

Mourinho making it all about himself by leaving early is one thing, but I agree that handshakes are meaningless.

In fact I've defended Wenger for not shaking hands because it's a stupid practise. Same with players -- act like it's for fair play practise then they dive and cheat their way to victory.

Wenger spoke to bbc is that not media.
Respect is a big word in the present game and everyone connected with the game needs to step up especially managers.
If you don't agree then we are still stuck in the 80's and look what was going on then.
We have made big advances with families attending games without FEAR.
Lets not go back.
RESPECT each other and show good grace in defeat or in victory

If the media did not comment on it then it would not be about anyone.

Instead of looking at what the manager are or not doing they should be looking at the game. I just don't see why we need to know where any manager is at this point of the game. There is nothing he can do to affect the game at this point so just don't see the issue if the manager is there or not.

Any match can only be "about a manager" if the media report what he is doing and unless he going around taking people out then I don't see the reasons for reporting on it

Agreed. Ramires' suspension may well prove to be a blessing. Hopefully Luiz will start the next game in CM and continue to impress Mourinho.

FINALLY, there's a couple of others who're coming round to the idea Chelsea will be a better and more stylish side without Ramires.

This Liverpool game really is shaping up to be a massively important one!
Can't wait for it!

I've certainly been impressed with the pairing of Luiz and Matic, but I don't see any reason to discard Ramires. He's had one or two poor games recently, but he was a model of consistency before that. If Luiz is given the chance, and he's prepared to continue his career in that position, it could be great..but Ramires would still provide useful back up in midfield.
Every team needs a player who is unselfishly prepared to roll up their sleeves and do the hard graft, I bet Arsenal wish they had one.

Ramires is still a handy player, but his pace and energy aren't as - desperately - important now that the quality of the players around him has improved so much.
It's always been said that there are many aspects of his game that need improving (passing/finishing), but they're still the same as they were when he arrived. There's still a place for him in the squad, but to progress as a team I think he's one where we really can do better.

Well matic in that position has certainly lifted the team.

He fits in so well, like he has always been there. What a good swap for Kdb he has proved!

Thats spot on. I am a massive fan of playing Luiz in midfield BUT its got to be the right games and at the right time. Ramires is much better at the dirty work which is something we need when playing most of the teams in the league

It worked against a poor team when the game was over after 10 minutes and a team who are able to only play in a way. Ramires comes into his own when we playing agaisnt different teams. I think anyone with a season or two of sunday league football under their belt could have had a very good performance against Arsenal on saturday as Wenger totally screwed up.

Style over substance has ensured that Wenger has failed in his last 500 odd games
