Awfully nice of the Sunderland fans to show up en masse to support their team in the league cup quarter finals.

Azpiliqueta picking up an injury tops off a great night.
A telling sign regarding Essien's level now - his booking tonight means he is now suspended for our next match. 5 yellow cards despite hardly ever playing

It was so on the cards that. Can't score that second goal and we paid for it big time.
Sunderland deserved it. |

Turgid horrible team to watch with little end product. |

Credit to Sunderland fans. £15 a ticket for a cup quater final and they've all gone dressed as plastic pink seats embracing the festive spirit
I cannot see Roman putting up with this desperate tripe for too much longer. Anyone with any sense must can surely see it was a mistake for Jose to return! Every single part of the team is now worse than when he took over, and the football much, much worse to watch! I want Jose to leave before the crowd starts to turn against him! |

It's also a snub to Chelsea, and shows that we have become very boring and not a big draw.

Sack Jose for losing in a meaningless cup? Seriously no, its not going to happen.
Don't care what anyone says for me Jose is the man to take us forward. Who else is even available ? Weve almost exhausted every bloody managerial option in the last 10 years. The one manager we truely want wont join us anytime soon since hes at Bayern. |

You only have to see Jose on camera to see how desperately tired and worn out he looks. It's sad to see him looking and sounding so tierd, worn out and clueless as what to do next.
I'll say it now, there is no way whatsoever he'll be here at the start of next season! Pep I don't think would leave Bayern, perhaps you could try for Klopp seeing as they are not doing as well as they were a year ago? |

![]() Can't really understand why Mata, Oscar, Ramires etc needed to be rested. There was a plenty long enough break between this and the Arsenal game. Inevitable anyhow from the moment Eto'o missed that chance, that we'd let them back into the game. In the end they deserved the win. |

It is a bit early for him is it not? Has he even got all of the required badges?
Lampard would be incredibly stupid, and dont even mention Terry either. Seriously, i think its the squad more than the managers at fault at the moment. Toothless upfront, a mess defensively and a soft midfield. Its an unbalanced squad with some weird signings(Willian) Gotta put the blame on whoever is managing our transfers, probably Abramovich / Emenalo. But nothing we can do about them as they do more good than harm at the end of the day. |

Jose has just said this team is ahead of his old Chelsea team.
Sad to see him looking so tierd and even sadder to hear him talking such a complete load of utter shite! |

Dixon isnt representative of the majority of Chelsea fans, infact i complete disagree with almost all his posts.

Your sqaud just needs some of the loan players back, put Lukaku up front and Courtois in net, then you would improve dramatically I think, so not much does need to be done, certainly not as much work as us anyway! |

He'll have the instant respect of the players and will come with some new ideas, rather than stale ones like Jose. Give him time to 'rip it up and start again' and look 3 years down the line. Just look at what Rodgers is doing at Liverpool. If he had our money, Liverpool would be walking to the title! |

Capello and Hiddink are probably the only options out there.
There is the likes of Klopp but whether he'd work under Roman is another thing |

I have always detested the rotation system, but tonight wasn't just a case of resting a couple of players, Mourinho made eight changes. I can't remember him doing that in his last stint with us, I thought we used to treat every competition seriously and our line-up was fairly easy to predict.
To me, it looks like he's making changes just for the sake of it. I don't think the players themselves appreciate that, they prefer to see some logic in team selection. Until Mourinho can actually decide on his best line-up and bench, with just a few tweaks depending on fitness and form, we are going to struggle. Anyway, good luck to Gus Poyet, hope he takes Sunderland to the final now. |

The officials didn't exactly do us an favours tonight (not that it excuses our poor performance). There were at least 4 occasions where we should have had corners, but Sunderland were awarded the goal kick instead.

Agreed. It's not been all rosy and there's been a few questionable decisions from Mourinho, but I think we have to put it into perspective. We're still only 2 points off the top of the league, and through to the next round of the CL with a decent chance of progressing further. I think most of us would have taken that for the stage of the season we're at, taking into account the obvious deficiencies in our squad. Let's just hope we can do some smart business in January.
I do agree with Dixon about one thing, some aspects of our game have got worse. Our attacking midfield trio were the envy of practically every other club in the Premiership, now that changes every game. Our back four were pretty settled as well, Azpiliqueta was looking to be the RB we had been searching for and Ashley Cole had a good season. Benitez should have used Terry more than he did, alongside Ivanovic that would have been a strong line up, in my opinion. Up front we had Torres, and Benitez was probably under instructions to persevere with him. But come the summer, what does Jose do ? He lets Lukaku go out on loan again and brings in another once-great player who is clearly long past his best. The defensive midfield positions were a big problem, but at least Rafa did try Luiz in a pivotal role, something we had been talking about on here for a long time. But the point is, Jose (presumably) had the opportunity to do something about our weaknesses, Rafa didn't..he was basically there as a caretaker manager. Mourunho is known for his attention to detail, he must have watched Chelsea games and seen where things were going wrong ? So, perhaps he didn't have a free hand in selecting players during the summer, it's the only explanation that makes sense to me. |
