It's the generalising that irks - to hate Liverpool and their fans generally is a bit crude. Yes, every club has a subset of deluded, bitter and biased fans but that's every club.
I've called some fans of several clubs arrogant and classless based on their views, which I think is fair enough. These tend to be those who let rivalry get in the way of a decent discussion about a game or football generally.
I've no delusions about where Liverpool currently stand in the pecking order but am proud of the club's heritage. In the same way some Liverpool fans use this as an inaccurate measure of our current status in footballing terms, some Chelsea fans are clearly riled by it as a contrast to the way their recent success has been achieved. That's just the reality of modern football and the way power is attained and is nothing unique to Chelsea - other clubs like City doing the same is in fact making the Premier League a very competitive and exciting league. Chelsea's misfortune was that they came first.
Frankly, I no longer care. Football's about the here and now for me. I suspect what we did in 2005 and Chelsea did in 2012 give no comfort after a defeat for either club. The fact United have a few more titles than us doesn't bother me as I just want to compete this season like any other. History doesn't get you three points.
No club has a majority or significantly larger ratio of extreme fans. As you say every club has them. The size of some fanbases inevitably means the more militant voices will be more evident, sadly.
I don't think Jose is helping matters as he clearly still bears a grudge. And the whole Benitez affair stirred things up too. But at the end of the day, both cluns are doing well at the moment and both sets of fans should just focus on carrying on the progress made in 2013 in 2014.
