Food Hygiene Certificate ?
I am a hobby baker, but a local cake shop has expressed a great interest in my cakes.
However, the shop owner asked me if I have got a Food Hygiene certificate. I have got two, but they are dated 2004. How do I go about getting an up to date certificate ? Are there different categories ? How much do they cost ? Are there any free, online courses where I can get one ? The certificates I have are Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene Foundation Certificate in Health and Safety In The Workplace. |

But which is the OFFICIAL certificate which will be accepted ?
I don't want a Mickey Mouse one that isn't worth the paper it's printed on or isn't recognised ! |

Ask the cake shop what they're prepared to accept.

This has the info you need: http://www.food.gov.uk/business-indu.../#.Udx6kPk3uSo
"In the UK food handlers do not have to hold a food hygiene certificate to prepare or sell food, although many food businesses will prefer that they do. The necessary skills may be obtained through on-the-job training, self-study or relevant prior experience." |

Although a food hygiene certificate is not required by the food handler a supervisor or someone working in conjunction with food hanhlers MUST by law have a Food hygene certiicate. The environmental health inspector will insist when visiting the premises the food is prepared on the the certificate holder is present during a advisory visit, I have been a Head Chef for over 35 years and hold a leval 3 certificate it is advisable to update certificates every 4 years. Not sure what the Eho's policy on food cooked in home premises as the tend to like traceability of ingredients and recorded storage procedures to be safe I would cotact them via your local council. .good luck with the venture.

Yea, just contact the council. They are free. They will visit you and check where you prepare food. Will also check your colourings and stuff. Got 5 stars here.
