Why no Junior Apprentice anymore ?
The BBC decided to cancel it, probably because of low ratings (although they contributed to that themselves partly - Series 3 was on at a tricky time, and not advertised nearly as much as the other series were.) It's a real shame, I liked it as well - in fact, I liked it more than the adult show. Lord Sugar is furious, as he wanted it to continue.
If the main show becomes big again over the next few years, I hold out hope that maybe one day some big shot at the BBC will decide to give it another shot - but I'm not holding my breath, because I don't think it will happen. Never say never though.

Didn't the last series get around 4m viewers? I thought that was a fairly good number these days, surely more than many BBC programmes get?

It certainly got more than Big Brother has since moving to Channel 5, and that's still being recommissioned.

I thought the standard was very high. The problems might be the ratings, or the lack of projects to back in the finals . The best people seem all to be en route to good universities. It was also an advert for some top private schools, and quite a worrying commentary on a few state ones.
There may also be something about programming as the 3 MasterChef series a year, the adult Apprentice and SCD, seem a bit crowded and shunted into odd places around the schedules some years.

Ashleigh went to a state school. Zara went to a private one, Arjun went to a state-funded grammar school.
There is a common misconception that Lord Sugar doesn't respect academic qualifications. I don't think that's true at all. Quite a lot of his winners of the main show have degrees, and generally his Young Apprentice winners were trying to get into good universities. He respects the academic side, that's just not the only thing that he respects. To earn respect from him, you need to prove that you are actually worthwhile. He won't give you the benefit of the doubt solely because you have a first-class degree, you need to prove that you're worth it.
The main difference between Junior Apprentice and Apprentice, is that most the kids are generally incredibly smart and talented people who will go for, whereas 95% of the people on The Apprentice are washout middle-management failures who are basically used car salesmen.

If he's trying to prove people to be worthwhile, why are all the tasks essentially either barking like a market stall holder of being a slimy used car salesman?

There are always a few market stall tasks, but there are also a lot that aren't. There have actually been only five tasks (that I can think of) that have involved cars. Series 2, Episode 6; Series 4, Episode 10; Series 5, Episode 1 (they were cleaning cars); Series 7, Episode 8 (they were selling things in France, things for cars was one of the options they had); and Young Apprentice Series 3, Episode 3 (a car was one of the things they had to get for the scavenger hunt task).

I Should have included selective state schools as well as private ones . Its not Lord Sugar who is the problem. The question is if there's anyone in the BBC thinking, or being told, that there's a disproportiontely high percentage of top candidates coming from those sources and worrying about it. It reflects a wider truth about what really happens, but the show does often show up the gap in results achieved starkly. They could reflect the real school population more, but presumably only at the cost of not having the bestcandidates.

Maybe it's me having one of those moments that we all have from time to time, but I really do not understand this comment at all.

I wasn't talking about literally selling cars, but the slimy salesperson persona that most tasks require people to adopt - that has absolutely nothing to do with running a business. They're interviewing for bottom-rung shop-floor people 90% of the time.
It's like interviewing for the position of Health Secretary by seeing who's best with a scalpel.
