Thought I would make a thread to discuss The Bill which is being repeated in order on Drama with 2 episodes per day Monday to Friday.

A thread to discuss the story-lines at the channels pace. The episodes are currently from 1998.

I'm loving watching the Bill on Drama so far. The Eddie/Rosie storyline is brilliant, I think. I always feel like there are a lot of pantomime villains in TV dramas these days, but I think Eddie Santini is played really well and Michael Higgs puts in a subtle performance. He doesn't overplay his part as a villain.

That's what so good about the storyline - it's so understated and open-ended. You could argue that both Eddie and Rosie are right and wrong. And I like the fact that we already know a lot about Rosie 3 episodes in - that shows good character development and good writing.

I am really enjoying it and I am glad they started it at the start of a storyline rather than during one.

I am not sure who's side I am one it just depends on how I am feeling. An interesting thing I have found is that I feel sorry for the characters which sounds odd but unlike Coronation Street etc I find The Bill to be much more realistic probably due to the high amount of crime in the world.

I also liked how the first episode started with a dead body being found next to the venue where I am going on Saturday quite reassuring.

I have not watched The Bill before so I did not see this the first time round probably due to me being 2 when it first broadcast.

I love the paintball episode but am slightly less keen on the rest of the Santini/Fox storyline compared to Fox's return a year or so later when I felt it really heated up. This is my favourite period of The Bill though - there are some great characters and have been some brilliant one liners already!

I think we've seen every character from this time so far apart from Geoff Daly? I think it's Tony Stamp's running a guy down tomorrow which were good episodes as I recall.

My favourite storyline was the big one involving Don Beech. That should be coming up soon as well IIRC

Yep the Beech storyline was brilliant TV - it concluded in October 2000 and we're currently August 1998. So if it continues to be shown at its current rate I'd guess we'll be seeing that around March/April next year.

I really wouldn't bother watching these considering Drama have no respect for viewers, these episodes are being cut by 6-7 minutes when to watch the whole of Series 14 Uncut is what 35.

Can anyone give any examples of scenes that have been missing so far? What type of stuff is it? (For what it's worth I don't think Drama have any more ad breaks than Watch for instance.)

For example, in the episode, Deep End, there was a scene with Quinnan and Santini in a car and Santini opens his car door and Rosie on her bike crashes in.

There was also a scene when Boyden asked Rosie whether she wanted to go out for a drink which I think was cut.

There was a bit at the end that was cut. Fundamentally, it doesn't change the flow of the story but it is a bit annoying.

The strange thing is that the UK Gold version of this episode when it was shown in 2002/03, didn't seem to have been cut much.

That's 35 too much I'm afraid. There are cuts but I'd rather watch The Bill on Freeview for free than to shell out 35 for an extra 6-7 minutes on each episode, which doesn't change the flow of the story that much. The core of the story is still there - and I've seen the missing scenes and they don't really add much to the story anyway. Plus UK Gold was fond of cutting The Bill episodes significantly, especially the half hour eps. I think there was an episode in 1994 called Instant Response with 3 or 4 scenes missing at the end in the UK Gold version.

The scene when Boyden asked Rosie whether she wanted to go out for a drink was NOT cut. It was vital to what followed so it would have been annoying if it had been.

The OP said there were two episodes per day and that was true on Tuesday probably because of the
extended episode that started the run, but now things have settled down there's only one new episode per day (at 9:00 AM) with repeats around midnight and the following day at 8:00 AM.

Where is Series 14 on sale on DVD?

Hi Ken, the box sets are in 2 parts so the first boxset is Episode 1-60 and then the 2nd boxset is Ep 61 to the end of the year, so yeah if you want the second one then here it is.

Thanks but these are from Australia and I don't have multi-region. I don't think these have ever been released in Region 2. But anyway, not to worry because we have them free on TV at the moment and I'm not noticing the alleged cuts.

Regarding the cuts, instead of having each episode then repeated twice why not just have the midnight repeat and then have a new uncut episode each day (from say 8 until 9.15 or whatever.) Then you could have a different show from 9.15-10 to take up the time. It means we'd get full-length episodes but they wouldn't have to lose out in the schedule to fit it all in?!
