Got a backlog of 12 episodes. Watched 'Walking the Line' and it was a great episode. Good theme of racism, nice to see Gary involved for once. But I am starting to see a theme that an officer's job seems to be on the line every episode, which is a bit repetitive. It's a common trend with the Burnside episode - Burnside begs Meadows for one last chance, Meadows says that if he messes up, he'll be to blame, and lets Burnside off the hook, rinse and repeat.
I am also changing my view of the golden era of The Bill. Initially, I thought it was 1998-2000 but ever since the Sun Hill Boulevard episode (barring the Jim Carver episodes and the Xmas episodes), there has been a bit of a drop in quality. A lot more duller episodes than previously.
I actually think that, consistency wise, the era that was best was 1998-September 1999. In particular, the first half of 1999 was superb. The Badlands episodes, The Rosie/Eddie Santini saga, other notable episodes being Tinderbox, Borderline, Critical Mass, Sun Hill Boulevard, all very strong episodes. We have started to see soapier elements coming in and it's easy to see where it started...the protracted Garfield/Quinnan/Jenny/Polly love square.
