Ok people, forgive me if this has been mentioned before, can't see it anywhere.
My mate video called me from his sanyo s750 3g phone on orange contract, to my threepay 616

Didn't even know this was possible to cross networks on 3?

Also, when we finished our 2 minutes of wow this sh*t works, I tried to video call him back 3 times, but got his orange video mailbox, even though he had full 3g signal, which leads me to believe that either 3 wont allow cross networking or orange has the same problems like dropped calls etc as three????

I also didnt think that any 3g operator allowed cross networking just yet.
Can anyone clarfiy any of this? Or am I light years behind?

By the way I've seen the phone and it's quite nice.

Yes you can do video calls across networks.

I don't know why you got his video mailbox when you called him back, maybe he was out of the video signal area (3G) or his signal wasn't very good? But if it was allowing you to leave a video message on his video mail I would suggest that your handset and network were functioning correctly as you were using the video call service.

And yes, there are some reports coming in of people with the new Orange 3G service having some issues.

Cool, thanks lala, Thought it could be my end, but how did it connect to his orange video mailbox then if it didnt connect to orange 3g?

Maybe just one of those things in these early days?

Is there anyone making video to video on orange who can give us a review. I dunno maybe another thread.

If his phone is out of the 3G signal area then a video call will divert to his video mail as you are still in the 3G signal.

Voicemail is not on the handset, it's stored at one of Orange's premises, so as long as you have a signal then you can connect to their voicemail, even if the Orange users phone is out of the signal.

It's more than likely he was just out of the Orange 3G signal for a bit or that the signal was poor and switching between 2G and 3G.

Can't help you here, but I suspect it's pretty similar to Three.

On a slihtly related note, my mate's just got a 3G handset as an upgrade on Voda and insists that he's on the 3G tarrif too, but we've never managed a video call from him to me or me to him. If anyone's got a voda 3G phone could you let us know if video calling is working for you?

I've not heard of anyone I know making a xnet video call on voda or even a voda to voda.
I was amazed that orange can xnet now. I've tried again calling and it always goes to his video mail box.
Anyone else xnetting from 3?

The 80p/min price for Video XNetwork is from the current 3 price guide.

This is the price from an add-on on Threepay and Pay Monthly option.

The price guide PDF shows it. http://www.three.co.uk/BlobServer.srv?blobdir=ImportantDoc&blobfile=price+guide+Jan1505_1801.pdf

It's on page 4 under the heading of Outside Your Allowance and states that once you've used your call allowance, video calls will be 50p to other Three handsets and 80p to non-Three numbers. (also, it's fair to point out that inclusive video minutes are NOT cross network like the voice minutes, which is a bit unfair really and something I hope will change in the next 6 months or so)

Thanks lalaland for the info, but the link is dead?

I think its a bit mean about the inclusive video minutes are not cross network like the voice minutes thing, and also think they should be. 80p a min to xnet video call is also steep.

Im not sure how much the orange xnet was to my threepay, but will soon find out when he gets his bill.

Nope. They've got Video Messaging via MMS, but no video calling.

They'll launch it later this year when they roll out their 3G service.
