I wonder how much support she picked up from the anyone-but-Donna crowd once the others were eliminated. I'll post a final version of the graph later but she was in last place following the elimination of Rose and then again, briefly, following Rory's exit. She didn't take pole position at all until it was down to the final three and even then held it only very briefly.

That is where I stood. Donna just was never my favorite companion. She had her moments but mostly she should have stayed at home.

As the incumbent for the run of episodes comprised of Human Nature, The Family of Blood, Blink, Utopia, The Sound of Drums and even Last of the Time Lords, I feel Martha is often unfairly overlooked.

Some of the Martha episodes were simply brilliant. But so were some of all the other companions too. For me the reasons are simple. She never did anything that wasn't human. Her story was simple and down to earth. Clever, yes, Feisty, sure, but utterly totally and beautifully human. Never swallowed a time vortex, never became part time lord, didn't have her entire time line disappear into a crack and didn't die 62 times. Martha was the best because although they made her time in the tardis overly loved up, they never made her anything but human.

And of course she was absolutely stunning. Well done Martha Jones.

For me, I would have preferred Rose or Amy. But I was happy to vote positively for Martha once they had gone. She's often been an unfairly underrated companion,and I'm delighted to see her getting the credit she deserves.
