Hi,

Unfortunately I can't get Sky where I am but want to get more from my TV than just freeview.

I'm aware of the differences between BT vision and talktalk but wonder which offers the best service. Does one have a better reputation than the other? Does one have a more stable service?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Do you want BT Sports? If you don't then get TT as they are cheaper.

and a truly awful reputation to go along with that apparent "cheapness".

Due mostly bad press from a minority they are generally very reliable no worse than BT or Virgin !

reliability is not being questioned, it's talktalk as a company that has the awful reputation, and rightly so.

My experience with TalkTalk since December last year is very good. Broadband is as reliable as BT, Plus TV is very good with lots of boosts. You view box doesn't get software updates as fast as BT's , still waiting for the last one but there is a big one due this month adding IPTV linear channels to the EPG so I imagine it will be in with that. IPTV linear channels work well, I am watching Sky 2 now on BB connection of 3.4 Mbps, on demand works well as well.

I don't like the call center in India, they try their best but any problem that's not covered by the script in front of them then forget it. The TalkTalk members online forum is very good for problems! Post your problem and a CEO will soon help. I had a remote control problem, a new one was posted to me the next day!

Overall I'm happy with the service, low prices - £5 fibre! Which I haven't got because BB suits my needs.

At the end of the day it depends what extra channels you want, if any.

If you want Sky branded channels then it has to be TalkTalk.

Most of the major non-Sky pay channels are on both services.

TalkTalk's poor reputation for service was deserved in their early days when they were swamped by their rapid success, but this is old news. I have been with them since a few months after they opened and have few complaints. They are not perfect, but they are no worse than the bulk of the competition.

As Derek mentioned, it really boils down to what you want to watch. If sport is your thing, the BT option makes sense since BT Sport is not yet available on TalkTalk's YouView. On the other hand, if you want more entertainment and documentaries, TalkTalk offers you the bulk of Sky's channels (without having to talk to Sky or pay them directly). It's roundabouts and swings.

Thanks everyone. I'm edging toward BT as their sport offering is quite enticing.

It's a shame really as I've been on plusnet forever and they've been really good but don't seem to want to offer a TV option (even though they're part of BT.)

Sky isn't an option for me and the sky channels on talktalk seem quite expensive.

Does anyone know whether NowTV is available on BT vision ( or BT you view) ?

With TopUp TV no longer offering Sky Sports I moved the in-laws to the TalkTalk package as BT's offering is quite weak if Sky Sports is the priority and BT Sport not of great interest. BT probably have the better offer if your priorities are reversed!

Anyway, despite fearing the worst, phone and broadband transfer went smoothly on the day predicted.

We self-installed the YouView box with Powerline adapters, added the Sky Sports boost and that's fine too. Would be good to have Sky Sports on the EPG and not hidden behind the TalkTalk player but hopefully that will come.

So, in our experience we have no complaints with TalkTalk.
