O2 PAYG sims.
This is one of those whose tariff included 300 texts along with limited GPRS/WAP access for £10 p/m.
Still get the texts, but have begun to be charged for the GPRS. Anybody know why this would be so ? |

Hi all.
Can someone please explain fully the way the top up works with these PAYG online sims, as i've read and re-read the terms and conditions loads of times and seen posts in several forums and i'm still none the wiser. If i put on my first £10 and only use only a few texts and calls in the first month, how much credit is left or is the balance of the £10 credit finished at the end of the 30 days. I will probably use 100 or so texts and maybe £5 on calls, so if I dont top up ever again will I still have £5 credit to use on calls and texts as and when I please. I'm sure I've read somewhere that you do not have to top up at all if there is credit on the phone if you dont want the free texts but i've now looked at the terms and conditions again and this is what it says "unused call time carries forward and will not expire provided the calltime balance is topped up by £10 once every 30 days" Now I'm more confused!! I hope you can all answer these problems. Cheers. |

The credit you top-up with is carried forward each month that is never deducted from you to receive the 300 free txts.....ie
you top-up with £10 for 1st time on 1st jan you will get 300 texts 24h later so on the 2nd jan you should have £10 and 300 sms........the 300 texts you have must be used within the month so before 31 jan......the free txts will NOT be carried forward into the next month.....but the credit will be carried forward.......so for you to qualify for the feb free 300 sms you will need to top-up another £10 before the 31st jan for you to get 300 free txt on 1st Feb.......so if you decide to top up then on 1st feb you will have £20 (if you haven't used jans £10 top-up) and a new batch of 300sms on your phone on 1st feb which is your anniversary date..............

Ok ScorpionXxX
So what happens if I dont want to top up for the free texts for a few months after month 1, does the £10 call credit from month 1 get used up if I text and call during months 2 and 3? Cos I'm still confused by this part of the terms and conditions that "Unused calltime carries forward and will not expire provided the calltime balance is topped up by £10 once every 30 days .If not topped up,then the phone will be barred and you will be unable to make or receive further calls except to top up the balance or contact the emergency services " The way I see it is that you gotta top up £10 a month no matter what!!! Or am I just reading it wrong?? |

The bit you are confused about is that, if you use up all your credit in the 1st month and you have £0.00 on your account for the following months up till 6 months then it will be disconnected. Your phone will NOT get 'barred' at any point.......only if your number stays inactive and you don't top up your number for 6 months and it always stays at £0.00 it gets disconnected due to no usage........if you do not top-up regularly each month then your simcard will be just a normal pay & go number...which you can have with no regular top-ups made at all. But if you have credit on your phone that credit is yours at all time and o2 will not take that from you and it will be rolled forward each month as long as you carry on making calls and sending sms from your number.

The first time I topped up £10 on mine was on the 25th Dec. Then the second time, I didn't top up on 25th Jan as well because I still had some credit left and didn't feel like topping up so soon yet. Anyways, I used over 200 texts that month and was fine. Anyways, this time I topped up on the 28th Jan. Does that mean I will now have to top up every 28th or 25th (thus losing 3 days even though I paid £10)? I hope I'm making sense.
Basically, what I'm asking is say the first time ever you topped up to activate your SIM with £10 was on say, 10th of the month. Then does that mean you will always have to top up on the 10th every month, if you want the free text? Or doesn't it matter whenever you top up, since you'll get the 300 texts anyways? Of course, I doubt I'll be able to use all 300 texts but I wanna make sure so I know exactly when I'll start to be charged for the texts. |

Ok, This top-up thing is just getting out of hand. People, the terms and conditions of topping up are simple and easy to understand - they are explained in perfect english on the o2 website, and in the sim card packs.
If you top up on the 1st of January with £10, within 24 hours you get your free text and GPRS allowance. You need to top up again by the 1st of February to continue to get your free text and GPRS (your allowance will reset on the 1st of each month). If you do not top up by the 1st of the February, but decide to top up on the 4th instead, your new anniversary date will be the 4th of each month, and the cycle starts all over again with free text and GPRS. However, from the 1st to the 4th, because you didn't top up before your anniversary date, you will be paying for your text and GPRS, even if you had not used all your allowance. Simple? Clear? Ok, good.

Thanks for the explanation!
