Gary: I’m quitting X Factor

“ X FACTOR judge Gary Barlow is quitting to relaunch Take That — paving the way for Simon Cowell to return to the hit show he created.

Singer Gary, 42, has told X Factor bosses he will be too busy to do the series again next year as he will be working on a new Take That album and tour.

Gary signed a £1.5million deal to continue as X Factor head judge after the group’s new album was delayed.

But he has now started working on the record with other band members, and managers are making plans for a major European tour in 2014 and 2015.

The band, who shot to fame in the ’90s with debut album Take That And Party, will go into the studio in February and release the tracks late next year.

A source said: “Gary’s a decent bloke and figured it was best to lay his cards on the table as early as possible. He wants to get back to what he does best, recording a new Take That album and touring with his bandmates.

“It looks like there’s no room for X Factor so this is likely to be his last year.

“The producers always feared his day job would get in the way, and they’re delighted they’ve had him for three years.

“I’m sure they’ll present Gary with a plan that could see him do both — they moved auditions in 2010 to allow him to meet his gig commitments — but they know three years on X Factor is likely to be enough for him.”

Gary’s departure will alarm ITV chiefs who see him as a big draw — but it could also see Cowell return to the show.

The X Factor guru ruled himself out of the UK series due to commitments on the US version. But the American show has fallen to below ten million viewers and if channel chiefs axe it Cowell will be free to return to ITV.

The UK show has lost three million viewers without Cowell as an on-screen judge and an insider said: “ITV desperately want him back on The X Factor. They hate the fact that their biggest show is missing its biggest draw.”

Gary is due to join Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger for X Factor’s arena auditions on Monday, when they will select which acts go through to the boot camp stage.

Last night Gary’s spokesman insisted: “He hasn’t made any decisions on next year.””

He should have been sacked already.

Thank **** for that. After the way in which Gary treated Rylan last year he should have been sacked instantly anyway. Absolute disgrace.
And if Simon returned it would literally be perfect.

If he does leave after this year, and Simon simply cannot come back, who are they going to use to replace him?

It's not a surprise really. It's been on the cards for a while that he'll leave when Take That are back recording.

Whether Simon will come back remains to be seen. I suppose it depends on how well the new line-up performs on XFUSA.

If he did return, would Sharon stay on for another year? Maybe the show ending with a Simon/Sharon/Louis panel would be a nice way to end things?

If you want to watch a SINGING competition then he'd be better off judging The Voice. XFactor is about having the whole package which is exactly what Rylan has got.

If you go back and watch the first week and Gary's comments towards him you'll see what I mean. He was an absolute disgrace to the show saying he was "embarrassed" by Rylan being a part of it. After he received thousands of death threats / disgusting remarks on twitter etc it's not exactly going to help the situation is it? He is there to encourage the acts to improve, not to continually insult them as much as possible. He'll never be Simon Cowell and the sooner he accepts that; the better.

I was really excited until I realised he is still going to do another series. Can't he go now?

The show may be about the whole package, but it's unfair to judge contestants differently, which would have been the case if Gary had ignored Rylan's vocal issues. All contestants should strive to improve week on week, and they should be prepared for criticism. How will they ever improve if the judges ignore bad performing habits or vocal issues?

Well they could end up getting Will i am it looks like he has quit the voice. After his contestant Leah didn't win Will look to twitter the second the result was announced, someone tweeted Will saying that they were going to audition just to meet him, he quoted the tweet and replied "don't".
Will is good friends with Nichole and he helped Britney pick her final 4 at last years X Factor USA judges houses.

+1

He got off lightly last year with the other three judges stuck up his backside all series. Chris got the worst hate possible after the X Factor team spread lies about him trying to convince the public that he didn't deserve to be there.

Hope this is true!! x factor hasn't been the same without Simon! Also I hope Louis FINALLY quits after this year [as in for REAL, don't want another publicity stunt like in 2006]

I'm not saying he shouldn't give his opinion but the way in which he spoke to him and treated him during that first week in particular was totally appalling. I think it was recognized aswell because each week after that he was less harsh and gave a positive comment alongside his critique.

Rylan did improve every week and ALWAYS put his everything into each performance, it wasn't an easy ride for him. Also his performing skills were about 100000x more advanced than any of the other acts. He was definitely one of the most talented.

If he's that talented why is he reduced to presenting BB spin off shows and appearing on This Morning?

Rylan craves fame he never really wanted to be a singer.

Not his fault that he has many talents and everybody wants him on their shows. He's being offered all these oppurtunities and good on him for taking them! Being a presenter comes naturally to him. I don't understand the logic of "If he's presenting he has no interest in music" at all. It's a really really poor attempt at trying to make your side of the argument better.

For your information; he is planning to release music after Big Brother is over for the year. He's much too busy to be focusing on it at the moment, he has far too many other commitments.
