I have 2 Orientals and yep they love the sound of their own voices! Not so pleasant at 5am.

My cat is vocal and has got more so as he's got older. (He's just a regular British shorthair.)

If I leave the room for any time and pop back he "meows" a greeting. When I open the back door to encourage him to come in for the night he "meows" a "hello".

We can get quite a two-way conversation going at times.
This sounds exactly like my cat - she's just a common-or-garden moggie ,too.

She meows whenever I look at her,and,if I meow back,she will meow back again and will continue to do so until I stop 'answering ' her.
It's very funny.

That's just what my Misty is like,but she's just a ginger moggy.

Here's a pic;

I've never known a moggy like her..all the meowing and following me around like a dog..and I've had a few cats in my lifetime.

I've had cats all my life and none of the ones I've had in the past have 'spoken' much,apart from if they were very hungry or accidently got their tale trodden on.

My current cat ( which I got 2 years ago from the RSPCA..she was 10 years old when we got her) meows almost constantly.
I can even have a meowing conversation with her

Is yours a chatty cat or the strong silent type?

What do you think determines if a cat is vocal or not?
I have a Persian which has the most awful meaow. It is such an ugly and very loud noise and she does it constantly.

I have a cream tabby and he is such a quiet little thing. We've had him for over 2 years now since he was about 12 weeks old and besides chirruping at the birds and meowing when he's in his carrier to the vets, I haven't heard make any other noises. He does purr very loudly though
