It doesnt
All orange SIM cards work at first. The SIM is up the wall. full stop. Sim registration comes up on the startup and wont allow anyhting to go through. Every other SIM card, if crapped up, says that!! |

Computer says no. Sorry but all orange sims unless pre registered In store have to be "switched on" to the network with a sim update as the same sim can be used for pay monthly or pay as you go it just depends on what oranges sim update tells it to do. Quote:

![]() It would have been easyier at the start as you had to write it in the end.

lamplite, that is totally wrong! The SIM registration message comes up, meaning the phone has been Blacklisted/barred. when the phone starts up and you cannot access the messages menu to recieve the update! I should know, seeing as my cousin has just bought an orange phone and his worked straight out of the box, no registration required. So, please, look into it first. How is the user supposed to read and view the sim update message, when you can't get into the menus... For example:
http://nokiafree.org/forums/t70707/h/s.html http://forums.mobileburn.com/showthr...page=162&pp=15 See Jacob Stevensons second post. Now can you see that the SIM isnt registered??? |

Errrm, no, actually, you're wrong. Orange do routinely activate SIMS in store, but if not it does need to be activated by Customer Service (for which you need to contact them). The SIM update then tells the SIM card who/what/where/when and how. The message will be received by the phone, and in doing should make the phone give access to the menus. If no SIM updates have arrived once its been registered, THEN there is a problem!!!! P.S. As you can see - not quite got the hang of this quote thing - ah well, eh? The last time I used an Orange PAYG phone was the end of 2003, when I bought it from The Link as a christmas present.
After putting the SIM in, I got 'SIM Registration Failed', for a few hours until my registration went through. If it's a SIM you've just bought, it won't be active. If you've registered at a retail store (they've taken the phone out the box and activated and registered the SIM card), then just give it a few hours. |

Orange's 'SIM Updates' are not real SMS' - the message you receive is just a notication of something happening, so you know to reboot the phone to activate whatever it's changed. |

OK, I stand corrected. All I can say is that that message does come up with blacklisted phones, but, I have purchased over 10 - 15 orange phones/sim cards, and none have done the SIM registration failed, OR neither have I had to register them. Considering this message ONLY comes up on blacklisted nokias. It is impossible for the shops to register the phones before anyone buys them... they wont know who to register them to!!!
