The racist comments and bullying are stepping up and it is being allowed to continue.

The producers did step in, they scripted DRs, they've put a disclaimer in. If you are worried about those in the house you are wasting your time as they know it's a game and would even keep Aaryn or GM in because they think it would help their game. It's the opposite to the knee jerk tabloid reaction you get in Britain, maybe not perfect but at least people get a proper live stream (well minus all the competitions lol) and get a fuller view of people in the house.

The US show don't have the 'zero tolerance' policy on racism that the UK show supposedly has.

There are rules. Being an abusive bully isn't against them, as long as you don't threaten physical harm to the person. Being racist is not against them in the US, although it is in the UK. They can say these things, they'll just end up hated by audiences. They don't remove people for being hated.

Thats so annoying though and proves how the U.S really needs to change how racist/homophobic/bullying people on Tv should be treated and remove those bullies from these game shows etc.

I really think the public will judge and so far it seems as if the public is clearly against Aaryn and crew and on the other alliance's side, the cheer when Helen won HOH showed that. It's distressing to watch but the original concept of big brother was to see how different people reacted to eachother when forced to live in a confined environment.

I agree. If it becomes too much a show for children rather than an adult audience it could become very tame. One good thing this year is no real showmances that I can see.

Big Brother was designed as a social experiment. This is social experimentation at it's finest. People are learning a whole lot about what it feels like to be the victim of racism, of how ugly it looks, and how people can be so dismissive and in denial about their own actions.

It's terrible to see, but the fact that the show is exposing it on the broadcast show, I think is great.

The offenders will face the consequences in the game, and in the real world. That's good enough for me.

The worst of all worlds would be if they were allowed to make racist/homophobic comments on the live feed, and those comments were then swept under the carpet and the producers instead focused on showmances or trivial arguments.

They've made a step in the right direction by including those comments on the highlights, but really, Julie Chen needs to bring them up in the exit interviews.

You make a fair point but I'm not entirely convinced that the people who need to draw those lessons will do so. The people who see 'how ugly it looks' are most likely to be the people who abhor racism in the first place.

I think BBUSA stopped being a 'social experiment' after Season 1 and removing racists from the house isn't pretending racism doesn't exist; on the contrary, it's acknowledging that it does exist and it is showing that it is unacceptable.

They are already acknowledging it exists by showing it and that it isn't acceptable by all the scripted DRs, the disclaimer, the host at the eviction talking to the house, the HLs coverage of people being confronted over it. I think only the very stupidest people, who wouldn't understand anything, wouldn't get that. American programs already cater for the stupidest by repeating things lots of times in programs so I think they know even how to deal with that part of the audience.

That's just acknowledgement that people are offended by it, not that it shouldn't happen in the house. The US do it a lot better than the UK, people should only be removed from the house when exhibiting illegal behaviour in my opinion. That's the point of Big Brother, it's a reality TV show so it should reflect reality. What does moving people from the house achieve? All that's happening then is those people are going to continue being racist in the outside world instead of in the house, the problem doesn't go away. It's better to broadcast it so attention can be brought to the issue and those racists can be fully hated by the public.
