Rose and 10, as well as allusions to the Time War, which make up a lot of RTD's contributions to the series, are in the 50th, how does that not equate to being acknowledged when his legacy is at the center of the story?

It has been publicly stated (and not denied) that Russell T. Davies does not wish to write for Doctor Who at the moment.

There is only one anniversary special. It is of little surprise that Steven Moffat was the one to write it.

Nobody is going to forget that he revived the show. Moffat has not forgotten everything which happened in the first four series - and arguably RTD's finest creation (10) is returning to help celebrate.

I seem to remember Russell saying that he was having a break from writing for a while because his partner was seriously ill.

Unless there has been some improvement there, I doubt if he wants to get involved with DW at the moment.

These two articles should tell you why RTD isn't involved OP:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/do...en-moffat.html

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/do...niversary.html

I guess he feels like he has nothing more to write about for Doctor Who at the moment.

There are an awful lot of people who -without their efforts - there wouldn't be a 50th anniversary. RTD is one of them, but they span from William Hartnell onwards. All these people involved kept the series going "one more year," and they've all kept it going to the point that "one more year," is now going from 49 to 50.

Steven Moffat and Russell T Davies are clearly great friends and respect each others work immensely. RTD allowed the Moff the greatest freedom when he was head of the writing staff. He was the only one who never got his scripts edited. Similarly, Moff has wanted RTD back as a guest writer, so he obviously respects his talents. Its' just that RTD has not wanted to do so - which is a great shame, but is entirely his right.

I bet if Moffat had had his way, we would be getting a massive Who extravaganza for a 50th special and he would have gladly co-wrote the whole thing with RTD. But things don't work out like that. The BBC had their own creative and budgetary restrictions and RTD had more important life events that took much more priority over Doctor Who - situations that I can totally and utterly respect him considering more important than Who.

Personally, I'd have loved to have seen a special miniseries co-written by Moff and RTD. I think they'd compliment each other brilliantly and we could end up with the best single series of Who ever if they did that. But if RTD doesn't want to do it because his partner is - potentially - terminally ill, then I totally respect that and place his life and love for his partner over an amazing series of a TV show. There's just no contest, really.

Has there been any news on how Russell's partner is doing? I'm hoping that no news is good?
