Does your cat understand you?
If I want my cat to follow me, or come in from outside.
I say "Come on Simba" Most of the time she will then get up and follow me. Or I tend to ask her, "Are you coming?" Sometimes she will come, other times she will just rest her head back down as if she saying, "No I'm staying here" Sometimes if she is doing something cute, like watching the tv, or playing I will tell someone who is in the room, "Look at what Simba is doing." Simba then quickly stops what she is doing as If she saying, "I'm not doing anything." Sometimes I pat my leg then sometimes she will come and follow me. |

I think you have the question back to front! The real issue is - do you understand your cat? I have had many cats and their only interest is firstly - feed me, followed by - stroke me. You follow their commands, not the reverse. I gave up trying to control cats many years ago and now just follow their needs. So much easier.

Our Charlie appears to obey simple commands - I pat my leg, he follows - I pat the settee, he jumps up, and if he's upstairs and I shout 'come on Charlie', he comes thundering down. But he only does these things when it suits him. When he doesn't fancy it, I might as well not exist.
