Lovebox is a total bargain compared to the big well known festivals which are quite often more like £100 for a day ticket these days. It’s an impressive price considering they get a lot of top acts to perform there.
Went to Lovebox last year and it was fabulous. I specifically went see Lana Del Rey. At the time she'd been taking a lot of stick over whether she could sing live or not. She totally proved her doubters wrong with a knockout performance.
But I loved the whole day out, there was some great stuff on, something for everyone. The festival is mainly known for having a bit of a dance/club and (on Sunday) gay music slant to it, indeed some of my stupid homophobic mates gave me a load of stick for going. I didn't have any issue with that, there's nothing nasty to it, all just good fun and colourful. It’s a lot nicer than the rock festivals as there's no laddy idiots behaving like a*holes throwing pints and slam dancing in the pit of the stage.
It follows the usual festival format of a main stage and then various smaller stages specializing in various genre's i.e. indie stage, dance tent, etc. with other fun things around that and overpriced beer tents. You know the drill.
The only bad thing I could say about it (and this is also a MASSIVE TIP to you) for god’s sake buy one of the overpriced programmes they sell inside, near the gate just after you've gone in. When I went they sold them as a little stack of cards you could hang around your neck. If you don't, you will have no idea what is appearing where and most importantly when. They put up no posters or info on the stages like they do at any other festival giving you the info.
Unfortunately you can't just use logic to guess when acts might be on either. Case of point Miss Del Rey might have been the biggest act on the Indie themed stage, and all the promotion artwork suggested she was headlining that stage. But she actually went on at something like 7:30pm rather than the headliner spot. Presumably it was so she didn't clash with Grace Jones on the main stage later, but you'd have had no clue of that without the programme to tell you otherwise. So don't risk missing someone you want to see, get one!
