It would be nice for Lana to win something in America. They have shunned her something crazy until now.

[tbh, although I'm a massive fan of Pink, none of them in this category were very good]

What a poor selection of nominees. I don't think any of the videos listed in the main categories are particularly worthy of award.

Isn't P!nk's Try eligible because that is FAR better than Just Give Me A Reason?

I wish they nominated Try instead of JGMAR. It's superior in every way

I agree. Try was released in October last year and it was well in the qualification period. In fact, the most obvious category that Try should have been listed was choreography!! Then again, US awards are always known to pick weird songs and videos for nominations. For 2013 Grammys, Rihanna was nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance for Where Have You Been. Now, I like that song, but I would have just guessed it might have been We Found Love (or Diamonds, if it within the qualification period).

Why is Britney and Will.I.Am Scream and Shout not nominated? It was one of the biggest songs of the year!

Because Beyonce has to be included in everything. Just like she was nominated for a BET award for no reason at all. Swimming Pools should have taken the place where her nomination is, IMO. Binge drinking is an increasing problem and that song highlights it well.

Probably because that song and video are garbage.

If Ride doesn't win Best Cinematography I think i may kill someone. Even if you aren't a Lana fan i defy you to watch that video and not think the way it is shot is simply beautiful.

Ride is truly deserving of that award. They also have a good shot at winning the Grammy for the music video category.

Hey! She has to have another medium/platform through which she won't launch her next album campaign.

A lot of undeserving nominations as usual. Glad Lana Del Rey's videos are being recognised. I can't think of anyone recent who quite captures the feel and simple beauty of music videos the way she does, more so as they relate to the lyrics and theme of the song.

Lets not demean the genre by calling that song hip-hop.

Honestly I think its because Britney isnt attending the awards. They seem to only nominate people who are performing on stage or agree to turn up and theres no way Britney will.

Once again the VMAs baffle me with their logic. So many inconsistencies with their categories. Taylor Swift is the only female nominated in VOTY, so does that mean she'll automatically win FVOTY?

Video of the Year
» Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz, "Thrift Shop"
(There have been way better ones, though.)

Best Hip Hop Video
» Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton, "Can't Hold Us"

Best Male Video
» Ed Sheeran, "Lego House"
(Should have been in VOFY, in my books!)

Best Female Video
» Taylor Swift, "I Knew You Were Trouble"
(Once again, so many better videos! Selena Gomez's Come & Get It would have been a welcome addition, as would Try by Pink!)

Best Pop Video
» Selena Gomez, "Come and Get It"
(I think it's stunning!)

Artist To Watch, Presented by Taco Bell
» Iggy Azalea, "Work"

Best Collaboration
» Calvin Harris feat. Ellie Goulding, "I Need Your Love"
(Timberlake will probably win, though.)

Best Video With A Social Message
» Beyoncé, "I Was Here"
(I'm surprised this is eligible. I guess they needed a 5th option!)

Best Rock Video
» Fall Out Boy, "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)"
(Just because it appeared out of nowhere and was quite cinematic)

Best Art Direction
» Lana Del Rey, "National Anthem"
(Not too familiar with the others, really)

Best Choreography
» will.i.am feat. Justin Bieber, "#thatPOWER"
(Meh! Pink's Try not being nominated is a travesty!)

Best Cinematography
» Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton, "Can't Hold Us"

Best Direction
» Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton, "Can't Hold Us"

Best Editing
» Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton, "Can't Hold Us"

Best Visual Effects
» Skrillex feat. the Doors "Breakn' a Sweat"

I think I'll give it a miss this year!

not sure what is happening with the VMAs in recent years.... they always used to pick the on trend and cutting edge .... in mainstream and alternative ....but they noms are a little bland and missing the mark in places in both mainstream and alternative greatness!

Putting it simply, the best videos in the last year have been:

P!nk - Try
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - Thrift Shop
Lana Del Rey - Ride
Robin Thicke feat et al. Blurred Lines
Justin T ft Jay Z - Suit and Tie
Will.i.am ft Britney Spears - Scream and Shout
Justin Bieber - Beauty and the beat
Daft Punk - Get Lucky
Empire of The Sun - Alive
