I'm not a big drinker of wine, but with all this hot weather I fancied a really cold glass of wine. Not knowing what to get I chose blue nun. It was actually really nice, is there any other wines which taste similar?

I think Blue Nun is a Liebfraumilch so look for that variety in the supermarket.

There is often snobbery about sweet German wines but I like Liebfraumilch too.

German wines are my favourite.

I like Blue Nun, Black Tower, and the Co-op's own Hoch - shouldn't mention it, it gets sold out quickly already - I call it the housewife's favourite - it's cheap too but not nasty. I put the bottles in the freezer until the wine is on the verge of freezing then start drinking - lovely!

That's interesting, because Blue Nun and Black Tower are widely recognised as being amongst the worst wines ever made. Still, if you like them ...

That was certainly their reputation decades ago - though I recall that Blue Nun was supposed to have been improved at one time.

Ah, good old Wiki informs that "However, sales increased after Blue Nun was purchased by the Mosel-based German family firm Langguth which bought the brand, along with the owning firm, Sichel, in 1996. They repositioned the brand, reclassifying it from a Liebfraumilch to a regular Qualitätswein bestimmter Anbaugebiete (QbA), changing the grapes from Müller-Thurgau to 30% Riesling, and making it less sweet"

I haven't tasted it for decades so cannot comment. Know nothing about Black Tower.

Liebfraumilch tastes like battery acid.

I like Claret, Champagne and that's about it with the so called good French wines - any I've tasted regardless of price have tasted like poison. French wines have also ruined a couple of beef and chicken dishes I've added them to - I wasn't happy.

I also like Spanish wines - especially in Spain.

I agree with this. However if you do like them then they are a good choice as they are cheap (usually), I definitely think people should drink what they like rather than whatever others tell them are good.

I think bobcar means that there's a bit of snobbery connected to wine drinking - so just drink what you like.

On this forum there is for any food or drink.
Say you like a certain lager or cider and you'll get derogatory comments about it's quality.
