True to life screens are flat, but that is touted as the marker for 'quality' these days.

That bemuses me a little

Where is iPlayer for this?! Surely it must have it?

I had those two options. I went with the warranty.

Top right?

It will have the official iPlayer app as soon as the BBC make it compatible, which hopefully won't be long. In the meantime as explained above you can access the web version of iPlayer.

So I went to a John Lewis shop thinking that I might as well support the retail shop trade. They had the Nexus 7 (2013) in stock, but no demo model and they would not show me one as all the packs were sealed. I was told that most customers knew what they were buying anyway.

that's odd. they're normally very good with that kind of thing.

i would have thought the obvious retort was if they know what they're getting they'd buy it on lline.

So I've had mine for a week now.

Not sure I find it worth the upgrade on the original really, I am a tad disappointed to be fair.

Lets get the good stuff out the way, no doubt it is built better, and no doubt the screen is better, but then the screen on the old one wasn't that bad anyway.

However, it still seems prone to weirdness quite frequently. It can slow down quite alarmingly, and yet again, typing put in random characters or spaces, or just doesn't even register the touch, and speaking of touch the touch response can be very poor at times.

Sometimes it seems excellent, then a few minutes later just spazzes out. Just like the previous two Nexus 7 Mk1s I had in that respect.

I don't actually think its the tablet, its Android on a tablet, it still just isn't quite there yet for me. One review I read online actually even touched upon this, saying it was a brilliant tablet, but it just makes the bugs in Android all the more obvious.

I still turn to my chromebook more often, its just a more pleasant device to use for browsing, which is most of what I do. The tablet has its uses, but I'm just not sure about it. It STILL isn't as quick as the Nexus 4 (well it might be faster in a benchmark but I wouldn't know) in day to day use. If my Nexus 4 had much better battery life, I'm not sure I'd bother with the tablet.

I don't think it helps that the current release of chrome is shit.

You're probably right about this, thing is I use a hell of a lot of its functionality on all of my devices (the syncing thing quite a lot but also for its seamless handling of my bookmark).

Thing is, Chrome on the chromebook is bloody superb, how can they get it so right on this but so wrong on the tablet, bloody infuriating.

I bought one yesterday - very impressed so far, especially with the display.

iPlayer is now available for this and other Android 4.3 devices. You can now download programmes too, a much requested feature.

Only on certain devices for some stupid reason - no downloads for my Nexus 4 or 10

It's there for me, I can't fault 4.3 on the nexus 7. Very stable and snappy. I think the 2GB of ram makes all the difference.

Anybody found one of these yet at a reasonable price? (i.e. cheaper than the £26 that the Asus shop wants with delivery)

I have the older one for my N7 (I got it free) and its terrible. The cover just flops open (no magnet) and closing it doesn't switch the screen off.

Hi all. Seriously temped to get one. I have a full sized iPad and I'm looking for something lighter to carry around day to day. Might wait for the likely mini iPad 2 with rumoured retina screen but if that doesn't transpire next month I'm seriously considering this instead. My question is what is the Play store like for newspapers and magazines? I love the newsstand app on the iPad, do Google/Android have something similar?

If you go to the Play Store, you can see how it fares for magazines. I don't know about newspapers as such, but I use Currents (Google's version of Flipboard, effectively) to get news in kind of newspaper style.

Android has separate apps for Play Store content. Music in the Play Music app, Magazines in the Play Magazines App, Books in the Play Books app, Movies in the Play Movies app etc etc....

I haven't used the magazine section much, but from what I've seen, the selection is quite good. Google Currents is also great for reading newspapers online.

If Tesco Direct are still doing their spend £150 and get £25 off then that is still the cheapest and best option, as also includes 1-year accidental damage cover for free. And of course you can use any Tesco clubcard vouchers you may have accumulated for even more money off.

No 3G - yet. Expect a 3G version later in the year.
