It's a lot better and much easier to see coverage now. It used to be confusing as hell. Also explains why my area isn't classed as Ultrafast but I get ultrafast speeds at times as I'm right on border between an ultrafast area and non ultrafast. Must keep switching masts though the non-upgraded mast must not be to far of getting upgraded as it is only mast in entire area that isn't. It funny to see on map my house address is in white and then all around white massive amount of purple all around in every direction on most zoomed mode.

It also shows that 2G has largely been switched off... However it does show how quickly MBNL has improved 3G coverage!

Shows that a lot of London isn't on ultrafast. I thought all of london's mast's were upgraded now.

I was under that impression too. Should be in the very central areas like Holborn/Waterloo etc, but map plots say otherwise. Big chunks of nowt. I will chase that up.

Interesting that there 3G network now covers 97% population. Big areas it seems to need coverage increasing is scotland and northwest england problem with that is obviously the terrain and doubt it could be done. But it's an impressive upgrade to there coverage checker compared to there old coverage checker brings it up to scratch with Vodafone/O2's checkers. I wonder what colour 4G will be when it goes live.

Shame it still says: No coverage.
Our 3G network is not yet available in your location. But we're growing all the time, so it's worth checking again soon.

Ive noticed lately Threes coverage has improved massively in some of the areas I work in which is in some south east coastal towns. always struggled in some parts of Deal but this past couple of weeks I've had full signal strength.
Looking at the coverage checker I see alot of other areas I visit are now improved too.
I do think they need to add an extra word of two to the key next to the explanation for white though ie No coverage (except when your wife if trying to call you) I don't know how, but I can have no signal most of the day in some areas, but low and behold the wife always seems to get through.

One interesting thing is that if you search for a placename instead of a postcode, one of the possible descriptions that it returns is "Our 3G, Ultrafast, Ultrafast 4G network is available in the centre of xxx. For detailed results please enter a specific postcode".

Maybe Three are further down the 4G path than we all think?

Clearly it is a coding mistake. The checker will have been updated to include 4G but seeing it says that 4G is available in Kirkwall, Orkney it is an error... maybe on purpose, maybe not
Likely so but good to see something that actually says they are still going ahead with 4G in the future.

They will be going ahead with it. Just not for a good while and until the right tech is there.

So they will change the Ultrafast branding to 3G and 4G Ultrafast at some point. Interesting find!

True it's better to be later to the show but get it right then jump and mess it up. Least most of there masts are upgraded/backhauled now [Just needing cabinets for vast amount of them] better position than EE were in when they launched 4G. Not sure how many of O2 and Vodafones 800MHz masts are working yet.

A few of the major english towns have work done & ongoing for o2/voda.

Yeah and Three can always use EE's cabinets if they need to (hence Dysons comments) obviously at extra cost and as a temp solution.

I think we likely to see launch of 4G in major places with Three/Samsung Cabinets [London, Manchester etc]. Then in some area's using EE's until they catch back up using there own cabinets phasing using EE's out. Will obviously cost them extra but it will help them roll out there 4G network.

Thanks for info about O2/Vodafone. Looks like they still on schedule to launch there 4G soonish.

Interesting - I'm in Cornwall and a lot of the (quite rural) cell sites appear to be "ultrafast" now. But not the one serving my house. Still, quite a change from a year ago where the likes of Plymouth barely had it.

It does say that there are planned works tomorrow, hopefully that is ultrafast upgrade work.

Obviously saying the 4G network is available in wherever is a mistake for now, but I would be surprised if they put any mention of 4G in the code unless they are planning on rolling it out in the near future. Of course, that roll out may just be larger places like London initially.

October is when it's rumoured for Three to roll out 4G. Seems viable to me.

Any phones which have support DC-HSDPA/HSPA 42+. On there site any phone which has ultrafast on the product page supports it as well. Biggest Phones out that support it are S3 LTE, Note 2 LTE, Xperia Z, HTC one, Lumia 925 and the Nexus 4.

Wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see a launch until Dec or early 2014. Three will wait until it starts to eat into it's sales. Invent a better way to market it and do it that way. Then there is the issue of them wanting to wait off long enough for a future tech launch straight up.. jumping the 'competition' on features.

I'm assuming the future tech you are referring to is voLTE. I can see why that would be important for Three to have on there network. I can't think of anything else they could have as Carrier Aggregation isn't likely as they have no masts at moment for 800MHz. Of the top of my head I can't think of anything else except perhaps intending to launch a Cat 5 or Cat 6 network from the start maybe LTE Relay and MIMO.
