They previously announced 100k in second week of October so a run rate of roughly 100k / month. Not bad whilst coverage is still limited. Maybe something in your previous comment about O2 not saying anything about 4G numbers?

Thanks for posting I had forgotten when they were going to be announced. Seems like they lost some pay as you go customers but nearly gained that many contract customers. So overall a slight loss but nothing to major. Does look like there revenue has dropped again though which it has been doing for last year or so. If it drops much more they not going be getting less than a billion a year.

370,000 4G customers isn't to bad in only four months though how many of those are business accounts is probably a lot. Seems like there smartphone penetration has increased a fair bit as well.

Overall it seems a pretty decent quarter for Vodafone could be a lot worse.

Think you mean a billion a quarter rather than a year otherwise they might give up!

So so results again I'd say. Year on year revenue change still takes a hit from termination rate falls. That will continue through the next quarter and then drop out.

Thanks again Japaul

Interesting results there. They're not great, but not bad at all tbh. It'll be down to other factors such as MTR mentioned above as to why revenue has declined. Interesting that despite increasing prices, out of bundle revenue has fallen a bit. One thing that's remained consistent through all operators is the growth in postpay contract but decline in prepay so that was expected again. That's what is contributing to Voda's slightly declining customer base. Smartphone penetration seems to be growing at a good rate for Vodafone and their red plan penetration of over 20% is very good tbh (which will have contributed to declining out of bundle revenue most likely).

In 4 months Vodafone have seen 370,000 users compared to EE's 318,000 users in 5 months. So good growth compared to EE but I think it was expected that Voda would be able to match (if not exceed) EE due to launching one year after and having the same brand, lower pricing, more business customers etc... I wonder if O2 will see a similar 4G take up?

Some other stats Vodafone gave for the UK

Contract smartphone penetration was 77%. This lets us compare with EE who only give figures for contract which for the previous quarter was 85%.

4G customer data usage is 1370MB/month

90% 4G coverage in London (outdoor)

2700 sites connected to CW network

Which would put 3G average use at around ~600-700mb right?

Where are those figures from?

Yeah I meant a quarter was typing and eating breakfast at same time. Thanks for extra details as well. I've started to see some of the CW Cabinets getting rebranded so not to surprising that they are being connected to masts.

Vodafone state that average 4G use is double average 3G use.

Unless Vodafone have seriously improved from about 3 years ago, I'm surprised they have any customers left.

Here in Newcastle, disconnected calls were common, 3G impossible to use any time from the minute you wake up to the minute you go to sleep (but its fine to use then because everyone is asleep), and once people discovered you could use 2G as a (poor) substitute, that service went to shit as well.

Wasn't just me either, all my VF using colleagues were affected, and it was a common issue throughout the area. From talking to those foolish people who are still with them based on their constant promises to do something about it, it's still a bag of wank.

Every other provider has provided a MUCH better service.

I think they only seem to survive because most businesses seem to default to Vodafone.

I think Vodafone will be happy with that. Especially since they're seeing an ARPU uplift with 4G customers (who are using more data).

Although one thing I don't get-
2.3m Red customers (36% of consumer contract
base)
If it was 36% that would give the UK division around 6.4m contract customers.... but Voda have 11.5m contract customers.

Hence why I said it was 20%?

Edit: Oh... they said consumer contract base.... well that's just sneaky!

36% of consumer contract base, not business

Just realised haha.

I'll blame it on my lack of sleep last night.

the company is currently worth £107bn, up 30% on this time last year.

you are looking at the wrong thing. the uk mobile market is saturated. it's not about new customers. it's about the ARPU and the margins.

Im referring to Vodafone UK which the results were about. So maybe you are looking at the wrong thing?!

Revenue has gone down in the past 3 Quarters as has total mobile customers. Only offset by slight increase in contract customer base. Premium 4G offering seem to face stiff competition from Three and O2 along with Tesco are offering it free.

Not sure if they're referring to the same figure or a higher one, but they're saying "Just under 400,000" now:
Caloa also revealed that Vodafone currently has just under 400,000 customers signed up to its 4G service. He said: ‘In the UK we have just under 400,000 customers. We are growing at 100,000 customers per month. Is that enough? I tell you no it’s absolutely not enough. I think it’s good but it’s not enough.’ - See more at: http://www.mobiletoday.co.uk/News/28....qWjPplv5.dpuf
In related news,

The company will add 47,000 new 2G sites for improved voice coverage, 73,000 new 3G sites for data, 77,000 new 4G sites as well as 70,000 new small cell and Wi-Fi locations and 87,000 new backhaul links.
Not all in the UK of course.

In their financials it clearly states 370,000 as the official figure. "Under 400,000" is just a way of dressing it up.

Financial data only upto 31st Dec.
At 100k a month and with their winter sale I'd expect them to be near or over 500k 4G customers now.

A little bump for the morning. Vodafone's results are due tomorrow, I'm sure japaul will do the usual honours and update us on their performance.

Any predictions for tomorrow? I predict that they'll have done quite with 4G numbers, they will announce some good 4G additions and some good net customer additions of a couple of hundred thousand, as other providers have seen I'm guessing they'll lose PAYG customers, but net numbers will be up though contract additions. I suspect revenues will stay steady.

Increase in 4G subscribers whilst overall subscriber numbers are down mostly due to pay as you go customers leaving.

It looks like Vodafone have added 124,000 new customers net in Q4, revenues look good from a glance.
