My contract is up and looking to get a good phone...

Which do you recommend

I am going to take it out on a contract most probably, on 02

I want my phone primarily for music, internet browsing and texting.

Unless it's the HTC One (Google Edition), I would choose the Nexus 4.

if you do go for the Nexus 4, do yourself a favour and buy it sim free direct from Google, rather than tying yourself up in a contract.

the HTC One has far better speakers, so if you will be using it primarily for listening to music then the HTC one (but as said the google edition is the better option).

Yeah I heard the nexus 4 is really cheap sim free. Just checked at it is currently 240.
Also what do you mean google edition?

that'll be the 8GB version, forget about that one.
16GB direct from google is 279 - unlocked, sim free.

HTC one now has 2 versions. with the HTC skin and with that is pure android (similar to the nexus 4).

You can't get the HTC one Google edition in uk unless you flash your normal sense 5 to the google edition version.

you mean the HTC one google edition? (there is no google nexus google version - as the nexus has never been anything but a google version).

it has pure android as opposed to the modified htc version with their skin.
it would also get updates much quicker and more often than compared to the htc version.

whether that is "better" or not is purely subjective.
it would certainly be my preference between the two versions though.

Just to say I'd second this. If you sign up for a contract, you'll effectively end up paying more for the phone than if you bought it outright.

Another vote for buying the Nexus 4 outright for 280 from Google play and using any of the massive selection of fantastic SIM only 30 day sim deals. Buying a Nexus 4 on contract is not why Google are selling it SIM free at such an incredible price. 24 month contracts are crazy imo, especially in such uncertain economic times.

The cost of the Nexus 4 16gb works out at 12/mth over 24 months, pair it with the 30 day One Plan from Three and for 30/mth you have an amazing deal, especially considering the one month commitment.

I would say get the Nexus 4. The HTC One may seem a good phone but I have been sort of put off HTC after having a HTC Desire S for just under 2 years due to the Desire S sufering from signal drop outs once in a while and not picking up a great signal when some other peoples phones have had at lest 2 bars on 2g wane my old Desire S strugled to even get 1 bar for signal.
So far the signal on the Nexus 4 seems better than my old Desire S was and the wi-fi on the Nexus 4 is also better.

Believe me mate, Desire s and HTC One are worlds apart.

To the OP I have Nexus 4 and a HTC One, and I would say get the HTC One. Better screen, brighter in sunlight, much much better speakers at the front in stereo. Great mic so sounds pic up great in your videos or just audio recording. It's got a bit more raw power thanks to better processor You get double the storage space on the HTC One as well, 32gb as opposed to 16gb or 8gb on the Nexus.

If you want to buy outright and you have a budget, then Nexus 4 isn't a bad option. if it weren't for the HTC One, I will be using the Nexus 4 which I got sim free outright from google play.

Both good phones, but depends what your want/need, and what kind of budget you have. HTC One is pricier though sim free, but is better to get it sim free unlocked so you aren't tired in to a contract. You will also get quicker software updates than the branded version you get from the network.

I have the HTC ONE, sim free on Three and to be honest I am 100% satisfied. I am notoriously picky and hard to please but this phone has done all I wanted, without delay or glitches. I have not regreted my purchace one bit.

Because I think its a better phone than the Nexus 4. Google editions have already been talked about, I dont think it offers many advantages on the HTC one, some people in fact believe the HTC proprietary software gives a better experience.

The only thing in my opinion that the N4 has over the One, is faster updates and of course it has android 4.2 but the One is being updated to that as we speak. So an unlocked sim free HTC one should not be far off on updates now.

Aside from that, if you want the stock google look rather than the HTC sense skin, then there are launchers like apex which will give you that pure Android look.

Could not agree more. I purchased a One sim free and am on Vodafone. Brilliant phone which makes my old iPhone 5 look so outdated. Updated to the latest software this last week which just put the icing on the cake!

That comes down to personal preference I think it is but many others won't think it is pop down to a carphone warehouse and check them both out it is only way you can really decide. They are both great devices and will easily last anyone 2 years.
