Rough, cheap whisky
I obviously don't have a very refined palate when it comes to booze, as my preferred whisky usually costs about twelve quid or less and is often a store's-own brand. I've tried all kinds of single malts, aged for eight years in oak vats lined with peat and old sporrans, but to me they are just a wee bitty too smooth - even bland.
You do have to be a bit choosy when taking this path, however. While Sainsbury's white label is just right for me, some cheap concoctions can be downright hideous with bizarre aftertastes. Does anyone else prefer cheapness over quality, and not just for financial reasons? Doesn't have to be whisky. |

Do you not get an awful hangover? Whenever I can afford to splash out on premium brands I dont feel the after effects as much as cheap liquor!

Ha! Good question. But then I tend to drink too much when I do have a drink, so I get hangovers whatever I drink. I'm not a sipping, "Mmm, that's nice" drinker. I tend to, err, "Go for it."
Only about once a week, though. |

I used to much prefer the stores own brand cheapest vodka as it was rough and had a real kick. I found costlier stuff like Smirnoff too smooth.

Had to have cheap whiskey in hospital once (yes really, antidote to antifreeze!) and it was vile, had to mix it with lots of double strength orange squash to even keep it down.... yak!!

I have a taste for single malt whiskies but rarely drink spirits these days. I used to also like a harsher tasting blended whisky sometimes - Teachers was ideal at the time.

I don't like scotch or malt but bought my dad a bottle of Highland? from Aldi and he said it was fine.
He is not fussy either and mostly drinks Bell's I do try to buy him different ones but he just says they taste the same

As for the Aldi whisky I think my Uncle gets Highland Queen or is it Highland Park ? from Morrisons or Aldi and it tastes quite nice to me. I'm not an expert whisky drinker so take from this what you want. Asda own label vodka ( the one with the red label) is very nice. |
