Utterly needless. Burley chatting with camp Italians is hilarious

BBC One ‏@BBCOne 7m
The Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to a baby boy weighing 8lbs6oz. We’ve suspended the @BBCOne schedule to bring you @BBCNews coverage

The only real "event" tonight is the easel, and bbc1 will show it live. itv not moved by it.

reminds me of when bbc1 junked a Tuesday schedule to bring 11m a change of prime minister, and itv brought you Emmerdale and other flopzone fare

Barely anyone watches a simulcast on ITV anyway, even when they used air it. BBC One is the home of national events, as they keep reminding us whenever they change schedules to maximise viewing figures.

What for - nothing more to say. It could be days before the name is confirmed.

Anyhow, depressing to think many of us here will probably be dead before this child sits on the throne.

ITV wisely leaving the news report till the end of the break rather than sending viewers over to BBC1 during it.

In Heathrow where I am nobody is watching the tv screens showing bbc news. No one seems in the least interested

Two or three trailers. Then 'this is BBC One, we're now going over to the BBC newsroom'. Cuts to the hospital. You can see here -

Why should they?

BBC 1 along with 14 news channels covering it.

No need at all for them to break

ITV did a 60 second item in the Corrie break...and ****ed it up

Why? What's the point? They may as well offer something different for those who don't want to watch the baby news.

30 mins of inane speculating is enough plus dropping Long live Britain causes problems as the 2nd ep is shown tonight at 10.35

I was on about BBC One, not ITV.

Edit - probably will switch back to normal on BBC One at 21:00.

The newsreader was cut off before she finished her report. Then onto the meerkats

A moment in our history live on BBC1, as it should be.

ITV screwed up. Twice!

Oh sorry. I'm getting confused between these 'Long' programmes.

When's Channel 4's next showing of One Born Every Minute?

Would be a shame if the ratings for Burton And Taylor was affected by people watching news events, the last drama that BBC Four can throw money at until further notice with the budget cuts.
Great cast, looks promising.

You're becoming as bad as SamuelW - the only reason why you want ITV to do a news bulletin is so the BBC's figures would go up.

That would probably be the bit where she says "We'll have more on this on News at Ten tonight".

Most will probably tune in to the Beeb.

8:30pm, in what is usually BBC1's lowest rating slot of the night, opposite Corrie.

If they were wanting to maximise ratings they would have announced it at 6pm!

Still, good of itv to say "put bbc1 on now for more chatter about not very much"

Breakdown will be fascinating, did itv nosedive after the break?
