If and when anyone ever gets any more ratings database access, a few requests from me:

Panorama Thu 25th July, 7pm-7.30pm, BBC One.
A Question of Sport Fri 26th July, 7pm-7.30pm, BBC One.
A Question of Sport Fri 2nd August, 7pm-7.30pm, BBC One.

Probably the only three primetime ratings we haven't had in the last fortnight.

Also, I note that the DS report headlines MasterChef's further drop, but makes no mention of the fact that it was up against Corrie for the first time this series.
Not been a fan of DS's ratings reports in the past few months. It seems to be A had B, P had Q while Y had X without any context.

a late start and late finish, as the Corrie crowd tune in, will clearly boost EmFm's overnight figures.

perhaps it is a deliberate tactic by itv to get EF artificially ahead in the overnights, which are what large sections of the media are only interested in?
It stopped having farm in the title 20 years ago, the time when the soap developed a new image and doubled its ratings. Ironically ratings now are similar to the Emmerdale Farm era, but 6-7 million is highly respectable now.

Twenty years is nothing. EastEnders started having an "ast" and an "nders" to go with its E and E, over 28 years ago, and the Ratings Thread hasn't cottoned on yet.

OK ratings for what they were - not too far away from what The One Show was getting in its last regular week before the summer break. However I take Pizza's point that it could be a different audience, and some of the regulars may have defected to ED. We'll find out next week if any such defection is permanent.

That's not saying much.

Emmerdale Farm (as it then was) was actually based on an RTE soap called The Riordans which began in 1965 and was recorded on location using an OB unit.

I do remember The Riordans, it was a big success for RTE.

Does anyone have a figure for Horizon, which aired at 9pm on BBC Two last night, please?

Bearing in mind how cumbersome OB units and videotape recording were in those days it must have been quite an achievement for RTE.

Alarmingly I Love My Country is still likely to be only the 2nd worst programme on BBC1 tonight with Nick 'Cardboard' Knowles and that bloody safe thing

Why can't the BBC do fun any more without it being patronising z-list filled nonsense?

It was a huge achievement for such a poor broadcaster as RTE, but the cost of makingthe soap and falling ratings saw it cancelled in 1979. Yet it influenced Emmerdale and its largely location filming was an influence on Brookside.
Speaking of which, Brookside was quite innovative as it was location based, had some biting political comment, pioneered the soap omnibus and its controversial subject matter saw two ratings peaks of 9 million in 1989 and 1995, excellent for Channel 4. Its demos were also excellent, being mostly watched by under 35s and a high number of ABC1s.

Betting plunge - Peter Capaldi now heavily odds-on with Betfair to be the next Doctor Who tomorrow.

It was actually taking a worse beating than the Wright Way which I didn't think was possible. Morbid curiosity and the old dears who can't switch BBC1 off might push up some numbers but it deserves a million at most! (unrealistic I know!)

Alesha Dixon said 'see you next year' at the end of Your Face Sounds Familiar... unless she means on Britain's Got Talent.

I expect it will be back next Summer, it wasn't that horrific, few tweaks and it could be 'alright'

Yet if it was on ITV you would love it.
The thread doesn't need another Samuel or Rivkin

Not even a tenth as bad a reaction as Splash got. Your memory seems selective

Well apparently its been successful elsewhere. I cant imagine its vastly different to the versions in other countries. Outside of talent reality formats what or who would people watch?

Pre watershed tv is a problem. Iv just posted on the ILMC thread about the fact that outside of talent/reality formats there is very little out there. Ant and Dec are the only act now that would gain an audience if you stuck their names in front of a format. They don't have any competition so you end up with people like Frank Skinner who is brilliant imo but perhaps a bit hampered by the restrictions of pre-watershed tv-along with a host of other stand up comedians who like to add in the occasional eff and blind to their act.

The Beeb has a particular problem with ideas and lack of names with the reputation to sell a family show. The very fact that the great Sir Bruce is still out there well into his eighties tells its own story and we can see why ITV pay Ant and Dec so much.

Hopefully the suggested Michael McIntyre House Party style show will get the go ahead. Have to say though I cant imagine the people posting on the ILMC thread will be any more enthusiastic.
