I Love My Country was no worse (or better) than Splash, a bit of harmless fluff not trying to be anything else, probably won't watch it again but it was overly awful. Of course it will be called the worst thing ever/not bad depending on channel affiliation (the negative side are always more hyperbolic.) Reactions on here and twitter mean nothing anyway, they were always going to be negative just look at those for Splash and YFSF, although I thought people moaning about ILMC were just that without the humour the comments for the other two had.
It doesn't deserve to do Secret Service/Don't Scare the Hare bad, so hopefully it can level at 3/4m.

Looks like there was a reason David Walliams pulled out of I Love My Country...
Having said that, I think it would be a shame if all Saturday night entertainment was beige and middle of the road, and it is good to take risks with shows that you could describe as bonkers every so often. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't and it'll be interesting to see which way ILMC goes, but its good to see BBC1 taking something of a risk with different shows like this and The Puppet Show next week instead of just commissioning another dark blue lighting quiz and hundreds of extra episodes of Pointless Celebrities.

Shame the BBC2 Mel Smith tribute is little more than Griff doing a rather too short introduction of a 1995 Smith and Jones compilation.
Though it did give me chance to enjoy the "tenor who says wank" sketch. I remember that being the talk of the common room the day after it first aired.

I Love My Country wasn't sophisticated. It wasn't a show to watch that required concentration. It was deliberately bonkers and was strangely jolly. For fifty minutes of TV to just watch and not think or have to analyse anything it served a purpose. I think people have rose tinted memories. The "fondness" Noels House Party had and that consisted of celebrities getting gunged, banal talking sofas and a huge pink bloke called Mr. Blobby. People have forgotten how to just watch TV without over thinking and tweeting. Social networking is harming TV. It seems mature and grown up to go on twitter and facebook to point out to others every tiny detail they didn't like and it escalates into something worse than it really was. I Love My Country wasn't the best show on TV. It wasn't the worst either. Compared to Animal Antics it was entertaining.
I'm sure it'll win it's slot which seems to be all that matters lately when it comes to BBC1 summer filler, so need for these posts supporting it.

Didn't stop YFSF being over analysed over the last few weeks as if it was the latest BAFTA award winning landmark drama. The light entertainment snobs have been all over that one every week.

Not really. It was just a light hearted show that had silly "generation game" style games that basically had celebrities larking about. It was OK. It was watchable and it made me smile.

YFSF was also light hearted non-sophisticated stuff that you could just watch without having to turn your brain. There is genuinely nothing wrong with giving your brain a rest sometimes. I wish people would stop bloody well slagging everything off all the time. If twitter was about in the 70's and 80's I'd hate to discover what was really said about the light entertainment shows then.

Not soon enough for either her or ITV I should imagine.
It's not as though she's done a bad job on Dancing on Ice; the ratings have just been hurt by Call the Midwife. I can see why ITV are entertaining the idea of continuing without Torvil and Dean - the show is doing better than anything else would in that situation (outside possibly Britain's Got Talent and I'm A Celebrity...)
Oh dear. Just seen a Big School trailer. Looks worse than I feared, plus it's clearly not a sitcom but a "comedy drama".
Seems a waste of a good cast, as the trailer certainly doesn't sell it. Looks like Waterloo Road with Walliams.

Agreed, poor trailer but reviews have been surprisingly good so far
TBF the trailers for the last series of Miranda were terrible too.
