What have they done wrong exactly?
The royal announcement was made about 1 minute after Coronation Street started, so ITV made the announcement at the next available opportunity, the middle ad break, and then went on air with a full programme immediately after Corrie had finished. They've got OBs, reporters, guests lined up, packages prepared etc. Though, as I said, now they've got a grip on it it's decent. |

ITV drop a show that would have held up well against the speculation news for a bulletin that won't break 2 million. Pointless!

The two biggest channels in the country showing live coverage of absolutely nothing...
AN EASEL. Quote:
To be fair to ITV, now they've got a grip on the coverage it's pretty decent. It's just a shame they had a nightmare with the ad break bulletin and the start of the News Special.

So. Will itvistas change their tune now, or wait til morning to gloat over itv's Corrie enhanced news special beating bbc1's?
Why is itv calling it "breaking news", you missed the boat! That said, itv's offering is far better prepared, the bbc offering is a shambles! raworth clueless, boring old farts and Hungarian tourists being interviewed |

They must be fuming; it couldn't have worked out much worse for them and more perfectly for BBC One.
BBC1 won the battle but lost the war tonight. |

I understand why the BBC the PSB are keeping with the news, even though they already showed the actual main thing and are now interviewing a man dressed like Punch from Punch and Judy
ITV are a bit thick though |

ITV showed that live as well.
They have now got the political editor outside telling us what the PM just told us all five minutes ago, and also what the PM does.... |

Don't see why on earth ITV have pulled their #1 non soap show of the week to broadcast the exact same coverage that BBC1 are already showing. Especially as nothing is actually happening. The announcement during the Corrie break and possibly a short 2-3 minute bulletin at 8.55pm would have sufficed until 10pm. Utterly pointless exercise.

So the BBC are dedicating 2 HOURS of coverage to this tonight. Bit silly considering they already showed it all in the first 30 mins

I liked the 'It's a Boy' message on Telecom Tower though.

Eve Pollard just mentioned whether Prince William will come out like Prince Charles did after William was born - which explains why both BBC One and ITV are showing the baby coverage. They wouldn't want to give that scoop to the other.

Agreed. I really don't understand the rationale behind this decision at all. Better to show a decent alternative to BBC1's coverage rather than do exactly the same thing...

Indeed, didn't she kick up a fuss about unfair questioning or something at last year's Edinburgh interview which is why it isn't on YouTube unlike the other controller sessions.
Poor Jay can't take the heat when answering for her shambles of a network. Last Year's full Meet The Controller session all for your viewing pleasure. |
