There are some channel fanatics here and I treat them all equally. I would say the ITV ones are more loyal (shareholders) and the BBC ones are proud (license fee patriots)

Nice to see Countryside rating well for August, DD and Revolutionary Road Trip both did well for BBC2 almost 3m/2m respectively. Reasonable for ITV in primetime especially Tipping Point. The Community Shield rating was where I expected, but not what you would call great.

Very happy to see The Mill still doing the business...Hopefully it gets another run next year...its the best drama this year!

Just wondering, how long before the next series of BGT do ITV make decisions on the scheduling? They should definitely go back to having the semi-finals running as one show, and the final as two shows. The split format just has not worked since 2010 - when you have the auditions pulling in 9-10m, and the live shows doing less, it hampers the potential rating for the final. It's capable of 13m+ each year in my opinion. Never mind the fact that the results portion hardly takes more than 10-15 minutes. They can slot Corrie in somewhere as part of it's 'big week'. A 90/105-minute show is good enough. Sorry for bringing this subject up again.

Now, back to last night's figures. The White Queen seems to have found it's level. Dragon's Den almost a million on last series' opener. A little rise for Law & Order. The C4 dramas still steady but I think they've buggered up the scheduling for 'The Mill'. They really should have had it on four consecutive Sundays.

Seeing as X Factor looks to be back on the 31st, don't you think ITV would be in danger of overkilling it, having it on virtually every Saturday & Sunday from the start to the end? The Harry Potter premiere may be able to boost the launch episode, but it'll probably have to rely on content & momentum/hype to keep it going throughout. Seeing as there may be 12 contestants in the lives this year, I wouldn't expect to see the shows running longer than 2 hours at best.

I mentioned this yesterday - Stepping Out doesn't seem like a show which should be plonked on a Saturday/Sunday before X Factor as it won't give it a good enough lead-in, but we shall see what ITV do with it.

9pm starts for BB are never great ratings wise. I expect tonight will see a rise once again as it's face to face nominations.

I think if they had stuck to just Saturdays the auditions would have dragged on for ages now that there is an extra round. As a viewer I like it being on both Saturday and Sunday. Good move I think.

Anyone got the figure for That Puppet Game Show's 11:05pm (11:50 in Scotland) repeat on BBC One last night?

First episode of New Tricks consolidated to 8.86m, largest rating for the show since 29 August 2011 when it got 9.06m.

DW Live barely budged from it's overnight, with 6.37m.

How often is it that we get a BBC Three top 10 that looks like this?

They might as well not bother with anything else.

I think it makes far more sense to have the doubled up scheduling from the start of the series, and it will be a slightly later start than previous years so that should hopefully negate any risk of overkill. Plus the scheduling should serve the revamped auditions well.

I hope the length of the live shows are cut back down this year from the start - anything longer than 2 hours is just madness.

Which just goes to show how valuable FG is to BBC3 in terms of pulling in its target audience - I think they'd have a much harder time of it if they didn't have it.

Enhanced by ITV having locked in a late afternoon audience with the FA Shield, it is well known that a live afternoon football match on Saturday or Sunday boosts the early evening line up on the same channel.

Even then, only 900k ahead of BBC1's competing gameshow repeat...


Shame the One Man and Dog segment wasn't on last night - I could have gloated about sheepdog trials beating Man Utd (who else...) on ITV by two to one!

Not sure 2.6m ave is a brilliant live football figure for the season curtain raiser on a grey and fairly wet August Sunday.

I believe it is - and all the BBC Three programmes in the Others chart are either Family Guy/American Dad and films. Shows the state of original programming on the channel at the moment.

The ratings for FG repeats away from Sundays seem to have picked up since the new series started. Whether it's because of that, or because they seem to be showing newer repeats (on the whole), I'm not sure.

The only fuss seemed to be ITVistas ridiculing how desperate it was of BBC1 to fill primetime with a daytime quota filler, but rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect for ITV cleaning up in competition.

Oh dear!

Now they wail about the Beeb overkilling and chasing ratings by having the temerity to keep airing this always year-round news and rural affairs magazine all year round and beating ITV nearly every single week of the year....

New Tricks returning to nigh on 9m is pretty fantastic out of its usual slot.

The Sheriffs are Coming rated rather well for BBC1 in the TOS-filling slot - 4.4/4.3m. No idea what it was, or whether it was first run or a repeat. But it might return?

WDYTYA back on form seemingly too - 5.4m

White Queen consolidating just fine at 4.4m for a high summer burn-off that should have been on BBC2 not the flagship channel.

Who else is utterly bored with the summer schedules? Ratings are lacklustre because output is lacklustre! Roll on the cooler days, darker nights and real telly!

Most of the BT Phonebox 1 ratings are so low you wonder if they just reflect the "passing breeze" as folk surf through lingering for 20-30 seconds at a time?

For BT Phonekiosk 2 all we get is: "Stations that did not report any data for this week have not been shown". Is that a BARB euphemism for saying "nobody watched anything at all"?
