Ha! Ha! No it definately was up for a promotion to One from Two but maybe next year. It got around 5 million at the end of the last series.

Hotel Hell is easily one of GR worst shows of recent years so I'm not fully surprised at its ratings...

I tuned out when I got an eyeful of Ramseys flabby arse in the shower...no need for that!

Oh you mean in the same way New Tricks lost a million viewers last week?

Yes, it certainly seemed plausible that it would go to BBC One, having achieved 7.32m officially for the final last October (inc BBC HD). In a way I'm glad it's staying on Two, but it would have been interesting to see what kind of bump it would have got.

Great British Bake Off is a BBC Two show through and through, I can't see it moving and I don't think Janice Hadlow would let go of it, she'd be crazy to let BBC One take it. I honestly don't think it would see that much of a boost from the move, maybe a bit out of curiosity but after a series on the channel I think it would end up losing the loyal viewers who make up most of its audience on BBC Two due to the changes that would no doubt be made to the format. If they want GBBO to last for more than another one or two years then they're better off keeping it on BBC Two.

The idea of 'promoting' programmes to BBC1 has always annoyed me.

Is there a view that people are incapable of finding BBC2? And (other than Miranda) it hardly ever actually results in a siginificant audience boost.

Disappointing news. Really wanted to see this front and centre on BBC1, maybe even on a Saturday night to liven up proceedings there and take on TXF. Imagine seeing Cowell's flagship dented by a food show - in the same year Cowell ballsed up a foodie show with his rip off of the same format!

So much for the ever-ratings chasing Beeb though...

Really?

I'm happy to be proved wrong, but I reckon 99% of transferring shows saw a sizeable if not massive uplift in their ratings when moved to BBC1.

Ground Force going from 6m to 12m
Changing Rooms ditto
Ab Fab going from 6m to 11m
HIGNFY going from 4m (first showing) to 7m
QI going from 4m to 7m (and back to 2m on BBC2)
The Apprentice going from 5m to 8/9m
WDYTYA going from 5m to 7m

What Not To Wear didn't gain much, if anything, from the move. Wasn't there a Simon Nye comedy that moved from 2 to 1 before being axed?

Beyond that....?

BBC1 is the home of programmes with the "Great British", "Britain's Best", "xxx's Britain", "The National ...." etc in the title.

It doesn't feel right anywhere but BBC1!

Don't know what that would be. Gimme Gimme Gimme moved from BBC2 to BBC1 for its final series, but that came to a natural conclusion rather than being axed.

It's not that people are unable to find BBC2, it's because on BBC1 they have lesser competition and appear within a more populist slate of programmes. Miranda is always going to benefit more from following EastEnders and preceding HIGNFY with a documentary opposite it than it would be on BBC2 sandwiched between two mediocre rated programmes and with Holby City opposite it.

BBC1 has Masterchef and other countless food related shows. Good on BBC2 for keeping their highest rated show away from the ratings grapping BBC1. I think it feels like a BBC2 show through and through.

By "proper", I meant BBC-made and not a repeat, usually just one show per Saturday in spring and summer: things such as Les Dennis Laughter Show, Bob Says Opportunity Knocks, Kenny Everett, Val Doonican (), Barrymore's Saturday Night Out.. .

Long Lost Family returning to ITV for fourth series

ITV have commissioned Wall to Wall’s (a Shed Media company) tear-jerking factual series, Long Lost Family for a fourth series.

The commission follows the show’s strongest launch to date – 5.6 million viewers, based on consolidated overnights.

The series, which has just finished its third run, averaged a live overnight audience of 5.2 million viewers/a 24% share of viewing, making it the highest rating series yet.

Since its launch, Long Lost Family has consistently won its prime time weekday 9pm slot. The first series averaged a consolidated audience of 5 millions viewers, series two averaging 5.15 million and series three has leaped to an average audience of 5.9 million so far, based on consolidated data.

Commissioned for 8x60’ episodes, series four will see Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell return to their roles of reuniting family members who have been separated for most of their lives.

Richard Klein, Director of Factual at ITV, said: “Long Lost Family has that rare quality of speaking to everyone and every family. Everybody has complicated families and Long Lost Family shows how important the family is in the hearts of the British people.”

Jo Clinton-Davis, Controller of Factual at ITV, said: “Long Lost Family has captured and grown in the popular imagination. Each story is deeply personal yet has a universality with which we can all identify. We are proud and delighted that it has resonated to the degree it has and built on its previous success.”

Long Lost Family is a Wall to Wall production for ITV. Long Lost Family was ordered for ITV by Jo Clinton-Davis, Controller of Factual at ITV.

ITV Media report 1.06m (5.1%) for it between 19:00 and 20:00 on SSA.

Oh no! As much as I think Masterchef (& Celebrity Masterchef are great) I just don't think viewers would be that thrilled seeing numerous attempts at a Victoria Sponge on a Saturday evening! For me it has all the feel of a BBC2 show on a weeknight - and looking at next seek's schedule it could be a very good rating, as it's up against Holby (River City in Scotland), a rpt. of Lewis on ITV, Sarah Beeny property show on C4 & Born To Kill on 5.

Baking on a Saturday night might be too dull even for a BBC1 audience used to balls popping and sitting in casualty for hours.
