Taken literally it looks like Virgin Media availability has had a dramatic effect on viewing figures overnight. But not quite as straightforward as that when dealing with ratings this low.
Interesting to see how tomorrow's Premier League curtain raiser gets on. Liverpool are still one of the most watched teams despite the quality of the side not being where it should be in recent seasons, so a good place to start.
Stepping Out has a 5 week run, so its final will be on 28 September, a week before SCD starts. SCD usually has a 12 week run, so its live shows should start 5 Oct.
So the interesting thing will be when they screen the SCD preview show, where did it go out last year ?

For sports events. I seem to recall stats for Champions League Finals shown on both sky sports and itv where they showed ht about 50% of people with sky sports watched the itv coverage

True. Even the five minute peak of 30,000 is only equivalent to six BARB panellists.

The preview show is on the 7th this year, so Strictly is likely to start on the 27th and 28th. So Stepping Out could face SCD twice in its run.
I think Stepping Out will do well for ITV, if YFSF can do decently so can this. All the new Saturday night shows this year have been of the same mediocre quality, watchable but not great, but only ITV's (Splash, YFSF) have pulled decent ratings, I suspect Stepping Out will do the same.
Any news on the judges for it - might get some headlines if they could get Arlene Phillips on board.

There have been a few good shows, but it's more the constant defense of C4. There is a lot wrong with Channel 4, and the poster in question is certainly a cheerleader for C4, bordering on PR.

No, they were calculations made by mlt11 (I believe) rather than something directly through the data bureaux.

What a coincidence that I should make a rare venture into here at precisely when I am quoted.
But yes, the above were calculations done by me based on the assumption that viewing was spread uniformly across all homes - and as I posted at the time that assumption wouldn't actually be that accurate which is why I stopped doing the calculation.

Fair enough, sorry if I misunderstood but it can't be that difficult to split ratings as every house would be labelled by tv package which presumably has to be proportionate to the number of subs for free view, sky. Cable, etc

I would expect BT Sport viewing to generally now be a bit higher in "specific order" BT Sport homes rather than VM XL homes.
There were 1m BTS specific orders as of last weekend - that must have now grown to approx 1.2m to 1.3m homes.
There are 1.8m VM XL homes.
However homes that have specifically ordered it are quite a bit more likely to watch than the average VM XL home so overall I think viewing would be a bit higher in specific order homes.
I realise Clare Balding was watched more last night in VM XL homes but that was the first day BTS was on VM XL so the figures would be distorted by VM XL homes "checking out" the channel.

Yes, agreed - BARB obviously can (and do) do it.
I guess the issue is that they just don't usually bother to report it publicly.

That could be a smart move. Even better would be if they got Alesha Dixon as well. Those two together could be awkward.
They haven't announced anyone for the panel yet though. Wouldn't be surprised if Jason Gardiner is on it though, with it being ITV Studios and Dancing on Ice ending next year. That might be awkward with Denise Welch as a contestant too!

It would be good on paper but those 2 as judges would draw even more negative comparisons towards SCD. Knowing ITV it will probably be Denise Van Outen, Jason Gardiner and Louie Spence. They could try their luck for Cheryl Cole I guess, pretending her credentials are that she is trained in ballroom and choreography with Girls Aloud/solo etc. Would also be good for headlines and interest.
Not much has changed on this thread since Monday, Good ratings fun. Big Brother will do well on Monday as that has a spare run

They're all similarities but not unique to Strictly.
Celebs learning new tasks has been done before. A recurring crop of contestants being voted off week by week had been done before. Dancing (and dancing in pairs) has certainly been done before and after in different formats.
There is a twist on Strictly - just as The Voice has a twist on X Factor. And it's enough that there's no question of a legal issue.

Where has this myth that YFSF was a ratings hit come from? It averaged around 3.5m with a couple of episodes around 3m. Break the Safe is doing better than that.

Well it seems Big School got actually an okay reception. Obviously with all new comedy some hated it others loved it but it seems to have certainly gone down better than I expected.
I think 4.5m is around where it should be. Below 4m would be disappointing. Will be interesting to see if it finds an audience that likes it.

Averaging 3m for a new entertainment series, on ITV, in the middle of summer, especially when a few episodes faced the biggest heatwave in 7 years here, is not a flop by any means.
This Peaky Blinders looks very good, and lavish, judging by the trailer. Pleased to see a drama set in my native Birmingham for once (Doctors aside, and we won't count Crossroads). I hope it can find a decent slot.
