Corrie wasn't dropped. Of course looking at the ratings it's easy to say that LLF shouldn't have been dropped. I felt the same when I realised that's what they were doing but that's because I expected an easy win for BBC1 last night. The ratings were low all round but I think it worked out better for ITV than I was expecting.

If, as everyone predicts, it will be "tonight", we could have last night all over again. Now, given those numbers, will BBC and ITV rip up their schedules for a second night running for rolling news?

There probably is more interest in watching the couple leave and getting a first glimpse of the new Prince than watching someone affix a notice to an easel whilst Sophie Raworth gurns on camera and a reporter interviews Hungarian tourists.

Would ITV forsake that in favour of its primetime Tuesday schedule?

Would BBC1 ditch EE and Holby? Or Luther?

I bet Beeb bosses are more nervous than ITV ones today!”

Of course ITV have little to lose tonight in comparison to last night. Nevertheless I think last night's ratings would put both off doing anything similar in terms of rolling coverage.

Baby fatigue is also setting in, even with hardcore flag waving, body painting, cheering fanzines.

Even if they call it George, as I predicted yesterday?

More than I was expecting for Botched Up Bodies. 1.2m/5.6% share is very good, and on par, if not a lot more, up on the previous series. I noticed the second series has been given a much higher profile slot compared to the first. Channel 5 are really on a fair roll in terms of nabbing viewers lately, which is great to see. Plenty of new programming to entertain viewers this week too; the likes of I Survived A Fatal Flight and Love/Hate. I'm rooting for Love/Hate to grab a fair 1.2-1.5 million viewers, and for Channel 5 to throttle Four this week!

apparently the baby will be on public view from 6.30pm

so BBC & ITV don't have to worry, it'll be covered by their normal news programmes

Fine for ITV, but BBC One will need some re-jigging.

Sorry to sound like a broken record, or a kid in the back of the car going 'are we there yet, are we there yet', but have Friday's soap ratings been consigned to the BARB waste paper bin?

The non-tape-checked ratings for the big 3 soaps are in ITV Media's top 10:

As someone said, it looks like DS didn't bother as they realised they couldn't get tape-checked ratings.

Friday's soap ratings, full slot and including +1:

1 ITV 07:30 PM Coronation Street 6649 39%
2 ITV 08:30 PM Coronation Street 6409 35%
3 ITV 07:00 PM Emmerdale 5291 33%
4 BBC One 08:00 PM EastEnders 5201 30%

6.00 BBC News
7.00 Regional News
7.30 EE

If "around 6.30" becomes 7pm, then BBC1 can just chop down the regional news. ITV has a problem then though - do they air 30 mins of chatter outside the hospital only to break off for Emmerdale just as the main event happens? Or extend the news to 7.30 and air EmFm head to head with EE?

Thanks very much Neil and Marky.

Oh well, I claim the 'it was very very hot' defence. (No, it really really was!)

I think the usual DS soaps editor is away, the soap section has been hit and miss over the last few days.

It certainly has. I keep seeing Tamwar from Eastenders Face when I log into that section

Simple! Run Emmerdale against Eastenders.

I'm a monarchist, I loved the Jubilee and Royal Wedding. But a baby with no name we haven't seen yet just left me a bit 'meh', although I did watch a bit of the coverage half-heartedly and had it on in the background while practising keyboard! Seems like many others feel the same on both counts, with massive ratings for the big events of 2011 and 2012 but very poor numbers for the royal baby.

Riddled with errors, Long Lost Family was not on last night. Do the writers watch TV?

Well deserved ratings. I thought it was a great production and Bonham-Carter never fails to amaze me, but the script tried hard to emote their love relationship.

In conclusion, I love BBC Four.

Breakfast News on BBC today was funny with live coverage from outside Buckingham Palace showing an eagle being held in front of the gates because, allegedly, some people misheard that news of the royal birth was to be be displayed by an EASEL.

Next time the eagle might at least liven up the announcement if they get it to fly from the hospital to the Queen.

Or they could look for a stork?

BBC2 should be looking at that for the one off dramas they are doing instead of BBC4, BBC2 needs to get this right as they could get good ratings showing drama like this and they have the budget
