BB was second in its timeslot. Some other 9pm ratings:
Death in Paradise (BBC1): 3.1m (14.1%) Benefits Britain 1949 (C4): 1.73m (7.9%) The People’s Medal (ITV): 1.6m (7.2%) Horizon (BBC2): 1.5m (6.7%) Coming second in a two horse race isn't something to boast about. |

Oh silly me, yeah on damp & cold dark November evenings millions of potential viewers are lost out and about on the streets, were as in the summer they'd rather be at home than on the beach.
Marginally on top, is that all? 2013 C5 is available on more platforms to a wider audience than in 2011. It also has +1. If allowance is made for that plus 'the best series on C5' the final should have been heading towards 3m. BB on C5 about is about betting and gullible people who soak up TOWIE a marriage consummated behind Tescos, Boreham Wood. ![]() Look, we get it. You hate the show. And that's fine. But it's pointless trying to find negative angles on its performance that aren't really there. |

You are just confirming how badly BB did, with little or no competition.

Just shows how well Long lost Family did in that slot
Quite a triumph for ITV - a documentary piece, which on the face of it seemed a reasonable draw, beaten into 5th place out of the main 5 (as Dancc's figures will presumably include repeats), with two other worthy documentary strands on lesser channels pulling ahead. |

Coming second in a two horse race isn't something to boast about. BB was never going to add a ton of viewers that haven't been following the series. Why would it? It ended where it began which felt apt for what's been a strong series. The low rated competition wasn't really a factor in the end as most of those unimpressed with BBC/ITV offerings would have gone to multichannel (see BBC3 rating) as opposed to the final of a show they haven't been watching. I doubt it would have rated notably worse than that even if the other channels had been firing on all cylinders, as for those 2.1m people that have invested in it over the summer (not necessarily watching every single night) and been duly entertained, it was always going to be a big deal. Anyway, isn't this the whole point with BB? The big channels go quiet during the summer so there's a market for a big noisy nightly entertainment show on one of the smaller channels. It's not a new thing, it was this way when the show was on C4 as well. |

OK we get it. You don't like BB. Move on.
I stated at the beginning of this series the average ratings will be higher than 2012, infact I said the trend for the series would likely be set by the firt Monday (Day 5) that seems to have been borne out by the figures. |

Move on. So happy for C5 on what has been a vintage series, by far the best on Channel 5 and IMO better than the majority of Channel 4 series on complete merit. Can't wait for the next series as I have full faith this current team will be largely retained and they'll have a lot more experience under the belt to improve on what was already a great season. Sad it's over, so many highlights. It's the first series I have watched in full since BB5 (Fight night/Nadia etc), and my favourite since then eclipsing even BB7 (Pete/Nikki etc). I think the amount of positive press and changes of perception of the show mean it will grow in the ratings further next year. I can't help but feel it would have achieved far higher figures on Channel 4 which is unfair as Channel 5 is by far the better channel nowadays. I'm rooting for C5 to keep doing what it's doing, Ben Frow has been good for the channel and his changes to Big Brother this year were a profound and bold shift back to what made the whole premise successful in the 2000s - adapted for the audiences of 2013. It will be higher still next year; people have started realising through the grapevine it's a decent show again. |

Well going away from BB, because I do think it was par, nothing more nothing less. Yet Under The Dome really kept a lot of audience, how does that compare to other shows they've sandwiched in on big BB days?
A lot better than those terrible "reality" Shows they've tried to pair them with anyway. |

Well done C5, seems like the show is slowly but steadily increasing its audience. CBB starts later this week and that should hopefully do well!

I'm loathed to call Under the Dome a hit yet though. Time will tell. But there's no doubt the scheduling worked a treat and gave it the best possible chance, so I expect them to do a lot more of this kind of scheduling in the future as it's clear BB can be a great aid to potential hit new shows for the channel when used sensibly. |

I do think C5 need to be considerate with BB scheduling and air it at 10pm all week, with dramas and docs in the 9pm slot.
It's a tricky one as they must wonder if pitting drama in the 9pm slots against ITV/BBC is wiser than a later 10pm slot with less competition. But +1 is the viewers' friend. ![]() Regardless, BB suits 10pm Monday - Thursday and always does better when it airs then. Consistency would only help improve the ratings. |

It worked very well. As I said last night the ceiling for C5 shows at 10pm normally outside of BB is 1.5m, so I estimate the special scheduling brought about at least a 33% increase on what it would have got without it.

And some people will inevitably watch online reducing the audience. I think it could do okay however |

Dallas launched with 3million + and ended up in the 11pm slot with 300k
And some people will inevitably watch online reducing the audience. I think it could do okay however Not enough viewers liked Dallas enough to stick with it. C5 will be hoping Under the Dome doesn't suffer the same fate. But for now it's a strong start at least, and it seems to be holding up reasonably well in both the US and Australia. Dallas also lost a lot of viewers over the course of its run in America, so it wasn't just here that happened. |
