Extra dialogue fire EE special Dot Cotton could say

'Did you see the new baby? It was on ITV. Our Jim was watching the One Show on BBC One instead'

The BBC News Channel will get a huge peak with this not being on BBC1! Save the ambulance for the morning!

Perhaps they will call him Nicholas rather than the widely-tipped George?

I would.

I think James could be in the frame, if only to p1ss off Harry....

Itv won the ratings yesterday as expected due to the Coro St/LLF following automatically tuning into Channel '3'. But I thought it would get a couple million more for Itv1 after how fortunately events went for them, bbc1 rated about what I said it would yesterday.

Doubtful. Itv will take the audience. Some viewers remain incapable of going past channel 4

And perfectly on cue, and no doubt pre-arranged, BBC1 joins.

Really stupid scheduling from BBC1 tonight.

Hmm, bit of a mistake maybe? As you said, surely people would have stayed tuned into ITV if they were that bothered considering they were focused on it for longer?

Was there any point in the BBC switching now?

If you were interested then you've already watching ITV.

Spectacular error of judgement on the BBC's part. Don't understand that, the One Show was totally disposable.

Having already given everyone ample time to switch over to ITV. Oddest scheduling decision I've encountered in a while. I wonder who thought that was a remotely sensible idea?

Apparently BBC1 just did a hard cut from The One Show to the News Channel, no presentation or ident at all. A complete unprofessional mess.

BBC1 knew that they'd be slated again for hours of talking heads, so I think always planned to cut in to News 24 20 seconds before they depart, they did it seamlessly, they knew precisely when they were coming out.

A 7pm exit would have been perfect for them, but it didn't work out because they spent too long nattering to the staff - and not thinking about BBC1's schedule or overnights.

BBC One cut into The One Show at 7.13pm, 30 seconds later they came out.
William, Kate, and the baby wouldn't leave until Carrie Grant had finished.

This is exactly what I was talking about yesterday, if two channels showed footage of a door people on here would complain, and now that they've just shown the bit people were waiting for people are still complaining. It's damned if you do, damned if you don't. BBC did not miss a thing, they showed the important bit, with minimum disruption to their schedule. Personally I think the BBC did the right thing.

Too late surely?

As our American friends might say, epic fail by the Beeb who were no doubt sulking after last night. They must have been caught off guard by ITV's change. If things had go to plan yesterday there's no doubt in my mind they would have cut straight back to royal baby coverage after the regional news, instead of nearly missing a bit that people might actually want to see as opposed to yesterday's nonsense. Nobody in their right mind would care about The One Show highlights being dropped.
