@TVRatingsUK:
June averages (June 2012 in brackets): Daybreak 669k (664k); Breakfast 1.49m (1.56m).
Pointless up 24% over first half of year, The Chase up 17% (not including +1), Countdown down 34%, Deal down 36%. Countdown at least has the excuse of stupid scheduling (and a stupid choice of host) for some of it's down fall - when Deal's only excusing factor is the awful Tipping Point you know it's in trouble.

I've been a bit bored so far this afternoon (just sitting in the back garden relaxing in the sun) so I've made a Channel 4 fantasy schedule which I will put in spoilers. Say what you think:

I think the only hope for Deal or No Deal is for it to have an uninterrupted break of between five and ten years, and then come back 'as if it had never been on before' with a different presenter.

Although of course if they plot that path, it might just do a Stars in their Eyes and find itself suspiciously reinvented under a different name internationally, with Channel 4 then finding themselves having to pay ridiculous amounts of money to in effect air their own format..

Pointless has gained massive ground compared to The Chase; the latter is doing well but is no longer number one in the slot. I'm glad ITV are giving it a break - I hope Take on the Twisters does well too, just to reward trying different things out in the pre-news slot instead of flogging shows to death.

Your Face Sounds Similar didn't see much of a drop off on last week and Raiders of the Lost Ark rated poorly compared to last year's showing. But all channels are basically in summer saving mode at the moment with a couple of shows being used to try and prove that they're making an 'effort'.

The BBC wasn't great yesterday either - only 1.6 million average for one of their flagship sports events (The Open Championship), with an Englishman leading is a really poor figure. That has to be down to the hot weather.
I doubt the Open ever gets that big an audience, to be honest, it may be a major sporting event but it turns off just as many people as it attracts. Even if you're not a football or tennis fan you can watch it on a superficial level, not so with golf, I feel. And the programme itself was six hours long.

ITV will have budgeted for the fact it is airing in the summer. And the very fact that it is airing in the summer means it isn't a priority project by any means - you don't hire Julian Clary and Emma Bunton for priority projects. It's not like summer has been a well known launching pad for ITV in recent years.
It should be, though, trying out new ideas in the hope that some of them stick, as happened with Strictly. What's not been mentioned is that it was beaten by Raiders of the Lost Ark and that can't be spun as any kind of success by ITV or explained away because it as hot or it was the summer, it was the trillionth screening of that film (though I would advise the Beeb to make this the last primetime outing for a while).

Interesting to see the papers starting to pick up on C4's ratings and as Broadcast points out, it's not as if they're getting low ratings with challenging fare but with derivate, mainstream programming. Last night was another example of C4 going up against BBC1 and ITV with the same genre of programming and barely being any more distinctive.

Celebrity Mastermind is proving a useful filler for BBC1 and BBC2, filling any available slot. Was on BBC2 on Friday, and is scheduled for BBC1 tonight.

Very true though I think, if ITV were aiming for Your Face Sounds Familiar to stick, that they would have aired it around the same time as Britain's Got Talent - Talent, Strictly Come Dancing and The Voice all launched around that slot to strong figures and grew from there (or, in the case of the latter, hit a bump). By airing it in the summer they seem to be burning it off which seems bizarre considering it's relative expense and it's been a hit elsewhere.

Also, poor for Top of the Lake...Shame...I'm hearing only great things about it, the fact that its been available elsewhere for months doesn't help I suppose.

Media guardian states BB got 1.1m with +1. But that MPD got 1m... so, is the 1.02m for MPD including +1?

I like what I see. I could also add why not revive something like Transworld Sport before the Morning Line. Also a ratings hit in the past, even if the Daily Mail aghast, was Sex Tips For Girls. I'm sure an updated version of this could pull in 2 million.

Regarding the questions in the previous thread, EastEnders omnibus was shown yesterday because there were two schedules for BBC Two this afternoon: "Football" and "No Football".

Can't help but think what the cricket highlights would get on C4? Maybe 1.5m?

I only say that after I saw that the highlights on C5 last night got 1.07m (7%) which is bloody good. No doubt that it was helped by Root's century and a half.

Yeah, that's a good figure for the highlights. What is unacceptable, though, is for live coverage of a daytime sport to rate substantially lower than the highlights on a regular basis.

Great to see C5's highlights show rating so well. As I've said before I think it's really well produced and they've got a good team of people working on it. 7% share is excellent, especially given it goes out at the same time as ITV4's Tour de France highlights which splits the FTA sport audience to a certain extent.

Even allowing for presentations and speeches, the golf looks like ending very early.

Are you looking at last week's MediaGuardian? They haven't updated in a while.

BB down last night to 1.1 million, but the crippling humidity last night will have sent a lot of viewers out to cool down. It will be back to 1.4 million again tonight.
It does seem the godfather of reality shows has settled on Channel 5 and I predict a good few years for both versions as BB seems to be settled around 1.5 million and CBB at 2.5. Yes I know it's not my scene, I'm out of the core demographic, but people like Dancc and Salv are its loyal fans and keep the show alive.
