I'm not sure about that, I'm not keen on DW but it's got a strong cast, Philip Glenister, Catherine Tate, Frances de la Tour, & fans of those 3 actors will watch it whatever it's like.

I'm surprised Phil G's appearing in something like this,& it's a brave move . Perhaps he just fancied a change from playing brooding characters

It's up to people what they want to watch, not to you or anyone else. I watch Big Brother nightly and catch up on The Returned during the week, or I might save some episodes for when its not too nice a day. Big Brother may be "crap" to you but it isn't to me and a lot of other people; I'm sure people on here such as yourself look at it rating at 1.5 - 1.8 million and think that means it has no appeal and hasn't got an audience. Well, it has, and I hope it will do on Five for many years to come.

The Mill needs to hold on to that start in order to revive Channel 4 s ratings decline.

The Village also saw a drop off in viewers by the end of its Sunday run.

Whether or not The Mill is any more palatable for Sunday viewers remains to be seen the trailers looked pretty bleak and dark too for this drama. I think Channel 4 would do well to keep advertising during Coronation Street's advertising breaks as that seems clever marketing and a crossover audience.

Thought it was good but so bloody grim- I read somewhere that it made the village look like friends?
Kinda agree with that- relentlessly harsh- no glimmer of hope or even a tiny comedic moment.

Had the overnights.tv free trial for a few days now and what's struck me the most is how incredibly poorly so much of Sky1 rates. For a channel with it's position on the Sky EPG, and the big budget it has, it should really be doing better. A few ratings from the last few days...

It's very reliant on The Simpsons (averages about 350k), which reached its peak 15 years ago.

Surely it's no different to some people greeting, launch night 2 with 'OMG best retention ever', ignoring launch night 1 was down 25% on the previous year.

You seem to have forgotten there was a little thing called the Olympics this time last year.

The ratings for BB 2013 are not exceptional it's extremely tiresome for each 0.01 increase to be greeted as if it's a significant moment in TV history. It's programme reduced to be sponsored by a betting company.

I watch Big Brother but I agree with this point... a slight increase of ratings and some people go crazy acting like its added an extra million viewers!

Well actually, if you really want to go there about comparisons and increases. As Dancc said, 1.39m last year, 1.61m this year, what is that in increase, over 10%? If there was an over 10% increase for X Factor, Eastenders, Coronation Street, The Voice, etc... people would be wetting themselves with excitement and there would be over 20 pages of discussion.

Please don't embarrass yourself and don't be a hypocrite just because you like to always put certain shows down.

And "Olympics", look at the data, BB14 was still beating BB13 before the Olympics started.

A 210k increase is sort of a big deal. It's like a 15% increase.

X Factor increases 15% this year, IMAGINE the discussion.

If I wanted to be honest, I would suggest that people are jealous that certain shows are increasing their audience whereas shows that others watch are not, hence why they need to put down other people that enjoy something else which they don't enjoy. To paint it clearer... soap fans/X factor fans... jealousy? I bet they would be reacting the same if such an increase was made.

I watched a bit of the Village and not even the superb actors could keep me with it as it was so bleak. It could have been a big hit for BBC One had it been written much more in shades of light and dark as it too launched with big figures.

To be fair, they were repeats of the previous night's episodes which averaged 398k and 338k.

But on a daily basis it's struggling to hit 100k for large chunks of primetime. Once The Simpsons is over for the evening then ratings head south pretty quickly.

Unlike others shows, BB is constantly under fire by the media and the threat of axe, so every increase is vital. Top Gear for example, would not be in any threat unless it loses over 2m.

Also, "most" days, I guess those people know how the majority of the forum feel when we come across 34 pages in an hour about Eastenders/Emmerdale/Coronation Street/X Factor and The Voice.

Pleased to see Law and Order pulling in decent figures. Seems the Sunday night slot is a good place for it.

The producers have certain viewers who probably live on a diet of gossip mags and pasta by the short & curlies.

C4's The Mill was advertised during Corrie here, must have helped.
Maybe it'll be worth them trying a similar promotion for Southcliffe.

If you say so. Stop being so patronising towards certain people. I am pretty certain over half of the BB audience enjoy David Attenborough wildlife docs (like me). It pretty much shows how immature people are by tarnishing a group of people by what they watch and stereotyping them. Lovely trait to have.

It does well for Channel 5. Obviously BB's glory days are well behind it, but the fact 1.5 million are still prepared to watch it is good for one of the last reality shows of its kind, if not the founder of the genre. I could only ever see Channel 5 ditching it if ratings fell below a million for an entire series.
I often wonder what would happen if TXF, which is overhyped by ITV and worshipped by the redtops, shed another 2 million viewers, but then miraculously gained 10,000 the following week. As you say, it would be like TXF is back for 34 pages.

They had to shuffle around the air times for Top Gear a few years back because it was struggling in the autumn - bumped later to 9pm in order to avoid clashing with X Factor. And if you have 2 short series a year (which they have to because of the filming) which have to avoid the last four months of the year, then one is bound to wind up in summer!

I'm sure you'd quite like to reinstate the clash with X Factor now, but it still wouldn't actually help the show. It's doing fine where it is, even without making the usual caveats about "overnights being increasingly irrelevant" or the fact the show is number 1 on iPlayer.

These ratings are wrong, or they are just repeats. Arrow was getting 1.2m-1.4m, and Revolution was topping 1m.

I hate BB, Xfactor, Strictly and The Voice as I feel these shows are killing off television.

Bb isn't remotely like towie this series. It's gone back to it's roots somewhat more.
It could well be that's the reason ratings are up, as old fans are returning.
