I think the crossover will be significant and CSI: NY will suffer the most. It looks certain to be the first season premiere of the show to rate under 2 million in the overnights, anyway. Shame, because it's been a grand old servant over the years.

Expecting CSI New York to top ITV tonight at 9pm, who have weak 2nd part factual.

Sub 2million competition from ITV, should be good for 7.5million if not more. I expect Holby City to be boosted over 5million tonight with a high rating programme following it.

Mmm both networks wanting to launch on the same night crime dramas. Both out of their usual slots. Odd the BBC didn't go Monday and Channel 5 didn't choose Saturday. New Tricks is a ratings missile for BBC One I think itv will be dented most in terms of share. Long Lost Family has done well for it though. Consistently pulling high audiences.

Long lost family is rating as well as it is because BBC1 has not been competing in the slot by showing repeats and hard-hitting factual topics. Also Long lost family is benefitting from following the Coro St. oap brigade, many of whom watch anything which Itv shows at 9pm. The proof for this is that on Thursdays llf was getting 4.5million, now suddenly it's gone up to about 5m because of the higher rating Coro St. lead in which boosts everything on Mondays at 9pm for itv1. If LLF had to stand on its own two feet without a Coro St. lead in and faced new BBC1 dramas like New tricks, it would be rating about 3.5-4million. Im more impressed by the Who Do You Think You Are rating from last week which got 5million with a very small lead in in comparison.

One rating from last night that we should notice is Raymond Blanc's How To Cook Well 1.49m (6.7%) at 8.30pm. Count Arthur Strong couldn't get that there. So the timeslot wasn't the problem.

Does anybody know what overnight Blanc was getting on Tuesday at 8pm on BBC2? That's the type of rating Count Arthur Strong should now be compared to.

Long lost family never got over 5million on Thursdays. In fact, its average rating last series was 4.5m. This series its averaging 5million thanks to the Coro St boost that all Monday 9pm shows on Itv receive.

People actually like shows on ITV you know, there isn't always a 'default' audience which you always seem to put across.

Surely, the audience for LLF and NT are different? If they are similar, then quite frankly people will record the former.

Lead-in's aren't everything. Something may get a lead-in of like 10m, but only end up with a figure of 4m. In contrast, a show may easily pull in 10m with a lead-in of just 2m.

If you stuck For the Love of Dogs against EastEnders for example, it will still rate well. Clearly, people like it.

Even if it got a boost from Coronation Street, you can't take away the fact it's rating well.

LLF is rating well and is obviously well liked, Im not saying it's not. But it's rating as well as it is this series because BBC1 are offering no competition against it and that it is taking advantage of the Coro St. Monday night lead-in which seems to boost ratings for every show at 9pm. If this series was on Thursdays, like the previous two series, it wouldn't be averaging 5million.

If factual can pull in 5m at 8:30pm on a Thursday, why can't it do so at 9pm?

And we won't know, will we? It's staying on a Monday for the time being.

BBC1 are sticking repeats there which pull in 3-4m. New Tricks may well pull in 7-8m but I don't think LLF will be hit very much.

Still no tape-checking for the commercial terrestrials.

I agree that Samuel is talking nonsense, as usual, but I don't think it's him who keeps putting across this "default audience" idiocy, nearly every decent rating for BBC One gets put down to it by certain other posters. Maybe it's because I rarely read his posts, but I've seen other people mention it far more than Samuel.

Anyway, another strong rating for Long Lost Family, watched a bit of it and it's not my type of thing at all but it was well made. Didn't expect Emmerdale to still be ahead, but at least changes are being made now and we can't expect improvements to happen overnight with EE, although that won't stop a good six more months of 'EE in crisis' talk.

You'd have to be incredibly naiive to think each channel doesn't have a default/base audience for different kinds of shows. If there wasn't a default audience, channels like BBC2, C4 and C5 would be getting similar ratings for their shows to what BBC1 and Itv get. When Channel4 shows their dramas, 2million is good for them where as a similar type of drama on BBC1/Itv would get 5million because these two channels have a higher default audience willing to watch their programs. This default audience tends to increase for shows airing after Coro St as there's always a certain % of its viewers who will just continue watching whatever follows in the next timeslot.

I predict by the end of the week there will be a 200% increase in the ratings of BB compared to the same day in the house last year!!

I think he was just talking out of his backside (no offence) as he hasn't said what he means by that since I've asked.

When George S said Eastenders has a 1 hour advantage over Emmerdale, it's clear what he's trying to say. He's saying that Eastenders 8pm timeslot is better than Emmerdale's 7pm slot because more people watch television at 8pm than earlier in the evening. A 35pct share in Emmerdales slot would mean 6.5million and the same 35pct share in Eastenders slot would equal 7.4million. Therefore Eastenders is always at an advantage to get more viewers than Emmerdale's 7pm episodes due to the large number of viewers watching television during its slot.
