Absolutely. A lot of viewers don't like what C5 have to offer, or have preconceived ideas about what that is. Equally there are others like me who feel mostly neglected by C4. If the current closeness is maintained it can only be good for viewers as both will be working that bit harder to outdo the other.
It's exciting to me to see the natural order of things disrupted. I didn't think we'd ever see that on a consistent basis. If ratings were as predictable as say, Saturday nights in Q4, all of the time, I probably wouldn't bother following ratings. I love the genuine unpredictability we have at the moment, it's fascinating. |

In regards to Jay Hunt's 'Meet the Controller' session at the Edinburgh Festival, it's being chaired by Boyd Hilton. I fear Jay Hunt may just have got off lightly there.

I share your displeasure at the current media circus that has ensued around something I consider to be fairly unremarkable unless it's affecting me directly.
No tv news for me today. I can find the stories I am interested in online. Unfortunately I know I'm in the minority and news ratings will go through the roof today!! |

Heh. Not an unfounded fear by any means. It was probably Jay's request, bearing in mind she didn't even bother turning up to the last one of these held by Broadcast. With Boyd in the chair I'm expecting kid glove treatment and no meaningful questions or answers.
Poor Jay can't take the heat when answering for her shambles of a network. |

I think a lot of people are getting fed up with waiting. And apparently if Queenie buggers off to bed at ten thirty, whether Kate has the baby or not after that time, no announcement wilol be made until tomorrow. All those people (like me) who wasted a day watching the news will feel cheated!
Sky News had Kay Burley on the case from 9am. When the queen of non-event news is assigned extra shifts to stand around looking gormless and asking questions as insightful as "when will the baby be born?" you know it's going to be one of those days where you learn the grand sum of nothing watching TV news. |

I really don't know why we even had to be told she was in Labour. We only need to be told that the sprog has arrived.
![]() Most unwise from a ratings point-of-view I'm sure but I wouldn't stand for my news show becoming some platform for fawning over the royals. It's extraordinary to think just how much has been said already about something where very little needs to be said at all! |

Is it bad that if I was a news editor it would be the "and finally" item ?

Fantastic peak for the Tour de France on ITV4 - I wasn't expecting it to surpass a million by all that much, let alone top 2m! In retrospect, it certainly looks like it might have been better off on the main channel, but it was always a difficult one to call. A missed opportunity, sadly.

how is that even possible! I might have to tune in tomorrow and see for myself. I imagine it'll rate well in its first week as it'll inherit the Chase's viewers, but if the format ain't that great the ratings will soon drop.

I wouldn't say it was worse than The Colour of Money but it wasn't great. You could very clearly tell that it was a 12 Yard format though.

BBC1 announcing a royal birth live to the nation.
ITV showing Corrie. Move along, nothing to see here... |

Did BBC1 go straight from EE to the news special or has EE been broken in to?
my epg shows EE as the current broadcast. 4.24pm birth. to announce it now, I can only conclude Kate is an EE fan. |

We used to have two channels that would broadcast the big national events. Now we're down to one. A shame but it's their prerogative.

Only BBC 1 has broken schedule. And they would never have interrupted EE anyway

ITV don't do rolling news so i guess the prep wasn't there...it does seem like the BBC took a (successful) punt to go to the news. Bum squeeze moment for the scheduler i'd iamgine
