I have always and will always LOVE this song. For me personally, it is as close to pop perfection that any track has ever came. In a few months, it will be TEN years old and I just cannot believe it has been that long!

It even has a video with just the most brilliantly crazy choreo I have come across.

What do you think of this song?
What do you think of Emma Bunton's solo career?

I love pop music people often pass it off bt when done well it's the best. And Emma Buntons Free Me era does that better than anyone else it's so underrated with so many great pop songs and Maybe is utterly fantastic Emma made a great popstar much like Geri always underrated bt never less than brilliant.

The OP is having a laugh?!
Poor Emma was whacked with the talentless stick very hard with her soft non-voice which just about cut it for a girl group but was mortifyingly shown up when she attempted a solo career.
This troll thread is mean Emma deserves better

I think the album is an excellent Retro Pop collection.

It arrived around the same time as a couple of other 60's tinged CD's.

For the mature 60's tinged tracks try A Girl Called Eddy - A Girl Called Eddy, it's beautifully produced by Richard Hawley.

For something in the middle give "Where Our Love Grows" by Swing Out Sister a try and for a more upbeat Pop album go with Emma's album.

I'm sure they're all on Spotify anyway.

I was obsessed with this song when it came out. It was just infectiously catchy. I'm not really a fan of her other solo work though. Had it have been released a couple of years earlier I think it would have performed much better as 2003 was when single sales really started to dwindle. I don't think this even sold 100k!

Mel C is definitely the best solo Spice. It's a shame she doesn't get the success she deserves because Beautiful Intentions and The Sea are both extremely strong albums. I'm hoping for at least a top 40 with her new single with Matt Cardle.

Edit - I quite liked Crickets Sing for Anamaria too

Free Me is the best solo pop album by a Spice Girl and I agree with above. If Emma had released this as her debut in 2001 it would have sold so much more. By 2003 pop had started to fall out of favour again and sales took a dip.

Emma's voice has always suited the 60s retro stuff.

I disagree i think a lot of people overrate Melanie C.
Her 1st album is good, her 2nd not many like but i love it & The Sea is good too but that's it for me.

I much prefer Geris' solo work to Melanie C's.
Emma's voice imo is better than Melanie C's. She doesn't over due it. Maybe is a fantastic song. My favorite Emma album is Life In Mono very underrated.

I loved the song when it was released and still love it now. I think it is one of the best solo Spice Girls singles. It has a catchy beat and it sounds relaxing. It showed Emma at her strongest, I think.

2003 was not really a good year for pop. It was mainly R&B/Hip-Hop which dominated such as Justin Timberlake and The Black Eyed Peas. Plus, this was also around the period that physical CD sales actually started to plummet and until its very low crash around mid 2004, when download sales began (not sure if digital sales started being counted around 2004 or 2005). That being said, Maybe sold decently for when it was being released. It sold just over 80k, which was better than Free Me's sales.

Mel C is definitely the best solo Spice. It's a shame she doesn't get the success she deserves because Beautiful Intentions and The Sea are both extremely strong albums. I'm hoping for at least a top 40 with her new single with Matt Cardle.
Mel C is definitely the best solo Spice. It's a really big shame she is not as popular as she should be in the UK. People now know her as a West End actress now, which is still good but it now overshadows her pop efforts. That being said, she is still popular in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The First Day of My Life really reignited her pop status there, mainly due to the mega-hit telenovela, Julia - Wege Zum Gluck. Her subsequent singles and albums also sold much better there also. The Sea didn't do as well, which was a shame, but her The Sea - Live tour apparently did quite good.

Agreed. Mel C has the loudest voice, not the best voice. I`ve always found Emma`s voice most easy on the ear, and I agree Maybe is great.

I'm SO glad to see that the majority here agree about 'Maybe'. I was fully prepared for her to get slated repeatedly! It truly is a little pop gem.

Defo think this is her best and strongest track. It is a great pop song. I feel this is the reason Emma performed it on The Return Of The Spice Girls Tour during her solo segment.

Emma like the rest of the Spice Girls has album tracks which should have been released as singles. A World Without You from her 1st album and Something So Beautiful from her 2nd album are beautiful songs and Emma's voice sounds gorgeous on both those tracks.
