People were saying May, now Vodafone has gone back to September. O2 were Tweeting making it sound imminent, but here we are, it's August next week and still no date, still no word. People were promised tariffs to allow them to upgrade. Why are they so quiet on the subject?

More to the point have O2 and Vodafone decided to go their separate ways for 4G, they were originally going to be working together, so why the separate rollout plans. Whatever happened to splitting the country up into 2 and having Vodafone manage areas and O2 manage others?

The cornerstone project is about sharing sites and equipment, they would always have there own infrastructures and will always be rivals and as you may know, O2 will be working with BT on 4G rollout.

o2 3G would be nice...had to cancel my 02 to contract as no 3G coverage virtually anywhere other than inside a major town.

Yes they narrowly avoided an OFCOM fine didn't they for not reaching 3G coverage targets. When I was with them in 2009, you sort of made allowances for this from o2 and other 2G networks - but now, it is not unreasonable to expect 3G coverage in most places.

My issue with o2 was that you could have a full 3G signal and not be able to connect to the internet - suggesting capacity issues.

It was about shared equipment yes, but how then are the networks on different schedules for 4G deployment if they were going to be sharing base stations. I've heard nothing more about this country divide, or any date for O2's switch on yet, apart from the fact it's now behind what they promised originally as we're almost in August with no word yet and not even 1 city live.

Presumably also working with Virgin as they signed a backhaul arrangement with them as well. It doesn't seem that cornerstone has worked as well for Vodafone/O2 as MBNL has for Three/EE.

The new agreement will merge all infrastructure into one new company - Cornerstone Telecommunications Infrastructure - that will also be able to offer indoor 2G and 3G coverage targeting 98% of the UK population by 2015.

The companies said the move will see 4G mobile services, which will allow users to download music and film to their phones at the same speeds as home or office computers, delivered up to two years ahead of Ofcom's requirement of 98% coverage by 2017.
They said they'll have 98% 4G coverage by the end of 2015. This clearly isn't going to happen if Vodafone aren't even launching until September due to delays. I wouldn't even be surprised if O2 didn't hit the 2017 target of 98% 4G like they didn't hit the 80% 3G requirement on date.

What puzzles me more than anything is the lack of information and press releases from Cornerstone / Beacon. I'm guessing the whole looking after each part of the country has been canned. I've heard that Cornerstone / Beacon has been hit with delays, which meant Vodafone's launch got pushed back, but how comes there's no word from O2 at all?
