Toshiba USB movie files not supported

Hi,
I have a Toshiba 40BV702B tv and it says it supports movie files (MPEG/AVI).

I've tried several but it says they are not supported. They play through a PS3 though.

I wondered if there was a firmware update or some codec that needs to be installed but there isn't much info on the tv. It's from Tesco so may be a cheapo one made for them.

The model isn't listed on the Toshiba firmware page.

From experience, despite what it may say in the user manual, the only files it appears to support are MPEG-1 -easily converted but a bind all the same.
Someone I know has the same TV with the same problem.
It also seems that it does not like USB drives greater than 8GB
