I have a lot of relatives in Canada and I have to admit every one of them has become very bitter regarding immigration . Bear in mind all these relatives were immigrants themselves once or are children of immigrants so
should have empathy .Yet they see a lot of bad changes and resent that while they had to have jobs awaiting them and be financially solvent before being accepted there the rules have changed and they find recent waves of immigrants eating up their housing and welfare system, such as it is . My sis in law's area is now intensely 'foreign' she says, and while normally locals are welcoming they are finding the newcomers very aggressive , very unwilling to mix and very unwilling to adhere to the norms that others live by regarding disposal of trash, property care etc . She finds it has changed their very way of life , and she has a point I suppose . She says it isn't nice to be forced into living in a virtual ghetto type area which was once a beautiful free and clean district where people reached out to help each other in hard times . Now it's more or less a 'them v Us' situation apparently .
